CDU explores training opportunities in Vietnam

Charles Darwin University will continue to advance talks with education providers in Vietnam following an important bridge-building visit to the oil and gas city of Vung Tau this week.

Pro Vice-Chancellor Vocational Education and Training John Hassed said several ideas had been short-listed for dialogue about how CDU might deliver high quality training to Vietnamese students.

“English language training and welding are two examples of areas they expressed an interest in, but we are yet to endorse that or identify the most suitable qualifications,” Mr Hassed said.

“This is an exciting prospect for the university, especially as the Territory has been active in forging stronger links in recent months.

“We have outstanding staff and training facilities in Darwin and Alice Springs that underpin my confidence in our ability to work out the details of a mutually beneficial arrangement.”

Mr Hassed was a member of Chief Minister Adam Giles’s high-level trade delegation to Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong , and Vung Tau, home of the Hong Lam International Vocational College.

He will continue talks next month when he returns to Vung Tau to inspect the PetroVietnam Manpower Training College.
