Charles Darwin University has welcomed the new Head of Business, who will work to maximise the local, national and international opportunities available to the new dual sector Business School as it transitions to the Waterfront precinct in Darwin.

In his new role, Professor Arthur (Art) Shulman is the Executive Director/Dean of the CDU Business School and its operations in Darwin, CDU Sydney and CDU Melbourne.

With more than 40 years’ experience in business communication and strategic planning Professor Shulman is keen to position the school globally and develop closer partnerships and collaborations with government and business.

“The new school will see the Vocational Education and Training (VET) and Higher Education business schools move to the Waterfront site to become the new Charles Darwin University Business School,” Professor Shulman said. “It will be a one-stop-shop for advancing business knowledge and practice, extending from vocational certificates through to doctoral study.”

Working with private industry, tertiary institutions and government in Australia, New Zealand and the USA, Professor Shulman has skills in improving customer relations and building partnerships.

“The new school will greatly enhance the potential for work integrated learning and bring together global expertise,” he said. “It will enable us to build a facility focused on business and the formation of unique partnerships focused on the NT and its neighbours in Indonesia and East Timor.

“I look forward to working closely with the business community to build on our partnerships and continue to work towards meeting current and future skilling needs.”

Professor Shulman comes to CDU from Griffith University in Queensland, where most recently he was Professor of Management and Adviser (Quality and International Accreditation), Griffith Business School. He has a PhD in Social and Organisational Psychology. He was a Principal Research Fellow of the Communication Research Institute of Australia, Program Manager for Land and Water, Australia, and Director of PhD programs in Organisational Behaviour and Social Psychology, Washington University, St Louis, Missouri USA.

Professor Shulman has extensive research expertise in sustainable knowledge management practices, research methodology and research education and health, coping strategies and adjustment processes. His teaching experience covers a range of areas including international business strategy, organisational design and change, communication management and business ethics.

The purpose-designed five-storey CDU Business School at the Darwin Waterfront will be located in Building 4 of the Wharf 2 complex. The facility is due for completion mid-year.
