Art and culture on display at CDU’s Open Day

A major art exhibition, exotic fare, world music and creative workshops will set the scene for artistic and cultural immersion at Charles Darwin University’s Open Day.

Lap up Casuarina campus’ diverse culture with traditional Indonesian music performances, African drumming workshops, Bollywood dancing, Kung Fu demonstrations, and international dishes at the food stands.

The university’s visual arts lecturers invite Open Day attendees to cut and print their own lino blocks to create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece to take home during hands-on workshops.

Northern Editions Gallery Manager Chris Miezis said works from Indigenous artists from the Warlayirti art centre and Bindi (Mwerre Anthurre artists) would be on show in the Nan Giese and Northern Editions galleries.

“A wonderful collection of etchings, drypoints, multiple plate and Japanese-style woodblock works are the result of workshops conducted by the printmaking team at Northern Editions, working with artists from these renowned art centres,” Ms Miezis said.

As part of the Darwin Festival program, the CDU Art Gallery is the first stop on contemporary art exhibition Luminous World’s national and regional tour. The exhibition comprises works of art from Australia and New Zealand drawn from the Wesfarmers collection.

Exhibition floor talks and a special performance by Voxcrox Choir will take place in the gallery at 11am and 12 noon.
