A short course in welding has provided industry skills, confidence and social opportunities for veterans in the Northern Territory.

More than 40 veterans enrolled in the hands-on welding short course, specifically designed for students to gain essential skills in welding processes in an industry standard workshop.

The course focused on safety units, proper welding techniques including learning to weld at various angles and positions and how to identify weld faults and their cause.

The cohort celebrated their course completion with a certificate ceremony at the CDU Casuarina campus.

CDU Community Connections Defence Project Officer Imran North said the recent veteran welding short course culminated in a wonderful celebration.

“The ceremony marked a significant milestone in the veteran’s skilling journey and celebrated not only their personal achievement but also provided an opportunity for networking with other veterans, lecturers, industry professionals and members of CDU staff,” he said.

Due to the high popularity of the course, another cohort will begin in early 2025.

Last month CDU and the Australian Defence Force signed a new MOU that will help to maintain and contribute to the already strong relationship between CDU, the Australian Defence Force, and veterans in the Northern Territory.
