Beauty therapists pose at WorldSkills Australia event

Two members of the Charles Darwin University TAFE Beauty team were invited to participate at the 2024 Australian Skills Excellence Forum in Adelaide.

The three-day event was an opportunity for participants to upskill and network with one on-one learning sessions and professional development opportunities alongside young trainees, professionals and apprentices from around Australia.

CDU TAFE Beauty Therapy lecturer Debra Street was nominated to attend the event as the Skills Excellence Lead for Beauty Therapy and hosted a workshop for participants in one of the latest beauty techniques “Airbrushed Eyebrows.”

Ms Street said it was an honour to be nominated and share her knowledge with some of the best young talent from across Australia, including a participant from Alice Springs, CDU TAFE Beauty Therapy VET Teacher Ella Adami.

“To be nominated as a Skills Excellence Lead is such an honour, I am grateful for the opportunity and to be able to share my knowledge and passion for the industry with some incredible talent,” Ms Street said.

Ella was one of the 130 participants who joined Ms Street in Adelaide for the weekend, based on her participation in the 2023 WorldSkills Competition.

Ella said she was grateful to further her journey with WorldSkills and for an additional opportunity to learn new skills, network and grow as a beauty therapist.

“The Skills Excellence forum is a unique opportunity for past WorldSkills participants and industry professionals to come together to learn and grow and I am truly grateful for an additional opportunity to hone my skills and develop in my profession” she said.

The Skills Excellence Forum is a pre-lude to the upcoming WorldSkills Australia Regional Competition, which will showcase local talent across a number of trades and industries with the chance to compete at Nationals.

Dates for the Regional competitions are still being finalised and will be posted on the ISACNT website, regional competitions will be held across CDU campuses including, Alice Springs, Katherine and Palmerston.
