Muso launch guitar and piano lessons for CDU students
Charles Darwin University (CDU)’s student-led Music Society (Muso) is now offering new lessons in guitar and piano.
Starting in May, Muso have offered beginner lessons once a week in the evenings to small classes, teaching basic chords and popular songs to budding musicians.
The initiative aims to foster musical talent within the university community and provide students with the opportunity to learn and refine their skills.
Muso President Ken Choi said the lessons, voluntarily led by committee members, have already engaged full classes of students.
“We are excited to be teaching music lessons to the CDU community,” he said.
“Music is a powerful form of expression and learning an instrument has many social and wellbeing benefits. We look forward to seeing our students grow and develop their talents.
"We also want to give special thanks to the CDU Academy of the Arts for lending us the venue for tutorials."
Muso is a dynamic music society at CDU, dedicated to promoting musical engagement and providing a platform for students to explore and enjoy music.
The lessons are designed to cater to a range of skill levels, ensuring that both novices and those with some experience can benefit from professional instruction. Chiharu Kita from the Centre for Youth and Community Music teaches piano, while Muso Designer Gilbert Tanoto teaches guitar.
Mr Tanoto teaches guitar and said it has been a rewarding experience to be share with others what he knows.
"Every lesson is an opportunity to connect with students on a personal level and to foster a sense of community within our university," Mr Tanoto said.
“The enthusiasm and dedication I see in the students motivates me to continually improve my teaching methods and to find new ways to engage and inspire them.”
The society hosts various events, workshops, and performances throughout the year.
