CDU celebrates Down Syndrome Awareness Week with Project 21
In celebration of Down Syndrome Awareness Week, Charles Darwin University (CDU) welcomed members of the Down Syndrome Association of the Northern Territory and Project 21 to the Casuarina campus.
The event aimed to promote inclusion, understanding, and acceptance of individuals with Down Syndrome within the university community.
The Project 21 students engaged in various activities during their visit, offering CDU staff and students unique opportunities to connect, learn and celebrate diversity.
CDU Vice President Community Connection, Vicki O’Halloran said it was a meaningful opportunity to connect and celebrate.
"Engaging with the broader community is not just a responsibility - it's an opportunity to learn, grow, and create a more inclusive and vibrant environment," Mrs O’Halloran said.
"Our dedication to inclusion and understanding is reflected in our ongoing support for initiatives like Down Syndrome Awareness Week, where we aim to build a more inclusive society."
Among the highlights of the event were concentration games and an engaging game using Auslan (Australian Sign Language). Attendees also had the chance to explore a display featuring publications and informative materials on Down Syndrome.
Project 21 is a program dedicated to empowering individuals with Down Syndrome by providing them with valuable training and job opportunities.
The visit provided a meaningful opportunity for CDU staff and students to learn from and connect with individuals who are breaking down barriers and making a positive impact.
