CDU student a rising star in Culinary Arts
Charles Darwin University (CDU) Cookery student Lillie Fielding has taken home the silver medal at the National Apprentice Competition Finals held in Sydney.
Ms Fielding said while she felt the pressure, she had a smile on her face the whole time.
"This whole experience has been amazing, and I couldn't be happier with the result,” Ms Fielding said.
“It was a definitely a challenge for me, but I gave it my best shot and am very proud of achieving second place. I'm grateful for the support from my CDU lecturers who have guided me every step of the way.”
Ms Fielding put a unique spin on a classic dinner of meat and three vegetables, impressing the judges enough to walk away with the silverware.
The competition is a culmination of events held throughout the year in each state and territory, testing the skills of apprentice chefs and culinary students.
CDU Culinary Arts lecturer Yakob Abraham trained Ms Fielding for both the regional and national stages of the competition, and said the talented student has demonstrated a keen eye for detail and innovation.
“We are so proud of Lillie’s achievement,” Mr Abraham said.
“She always brings her enthusiasm for innovating, cooking and learning new skills to class and is already an apprentice at Salwater @ Bundilla restaurant. Lillie produces quality food with precise execution and works very well in a team, so this award is no surprise to us who know her."
