CDU Student Council dedicated to platforming diverse voices
Charles Darwin University (CDU) students have banded together to make a mark on university life, as this year’s CDU Student Council members share their dedication to promoting a connected and engaged student community.
CDU Student Council President and Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science student Hajrah Kamran aims to effect positive change on behalf of the student body.
"I am thrilled to serve as the CDU Student Council President, and I am dedicated to making a tangible difference during my tenure," Ms Kamran said.
“I believe that a united and passionate team can achieve remarkable goals. Together, we can tackle challenges and promote various initiatives to enhance the student experience at CDU.”
Ms Kamran is also committed to listening to students from diverse backgrounds, addressing their concerns, and collaborating diligently with council members to turn ideas into actions, benefiting the overall university community.
"We are making sure that students' voices are heard, and we want to collaborate with other student groups and faculty staff to translate our goals into reality.”
CDU Student Council Online Officer Charmine Wright works to create an open and welcoming environment for online students, and has done so by hosting many interactive, virtual activities and events.
Ms Wright said after completing a Tertiary Enrolment Programme as an online student, she didn't feel the same connection to the student body as those on campus.
“I recognise the difficulties of online learning and feel that no student should feel isolated on their educational journey,” Ms Wright said.
“I plan regular interactions for students, such as coffee talk on Tuesday mornings and entertaining events including karaoke, and a spooky game fiesta for Halloween. These events create a sense of community and help us connect with others.”
Now a Bachelor of Social Work student, Ms Wright also offers to help online students with accessing course materials, supportive contacts and have a “truly enriching and gratifying experience”.
“I aim to create a judgment-free, safe and thriving online student community that bridges geographical barriers and brings together students from various backgrounds and different disciplines.”
