CDU graduates and current students join the SDX team
Several current students and recent graduates from Charles Darwin University (CDU) have been putting their skills to the test in the University’s Student Digital Experience (SDX) team as well as gaining some all-important experience in the workforce.
SDX’s Student Management System (SMS) team has recently welcomed five new and highly capable team members, four of whom are CDU graduates or current students.
The SDX team is responsible for modernising the way CDU’s core systems function, both for staff and students. The team is looking at developing better processes and more user-friendly technologies to encourage new ways of working together and achieving the University’s goals.
SDX Digital Futures Program Manager John Pye said there were several roles in the SMS project that were a good fit for people early in their technology careers.
“We identified needs in the areas of integration, forms and workflow, correspondence and reporting, and data migration,” Mr Pye said.
“We thought it would be a great fit if we filled these roles with students or those who have newly graduated to give them an opportunity to enter the workforce and gain meaningful employment.
“We paired up each of the available roles with a more experienced team member to help foster a supportive work environment."
The SMS team paired up with CDU’s Faculty of Science and Technology to help promote the roles and received around 200 applications across the five roles.
“Shortlisting from this number was very challenging, but it allowed us to engage with people based in Darwin, and those who were primarily part of the CDU community,” he said.
“We have ended up with five new highly capable team members with all arriving in Darwin from five different countries as we celebrate being a truly global organisation.”
New team member Fahim Kawsar who recently completed a Bachelor of IT at CDU is thrilled to be joining the team.
“I am absolutely thrilled and proud to make a start at my very own alma mater as a junior developer,” Mr Kawsar said.
“Having completed my Bachelors of IT in 2021, I was previously working for the Northern Territory Government in an IT support/Systems admin capacity.
“I am excited to hone my tech skills to the fullest, learn the newest of technologies and provide seamless solutions to the SDX team".
