Tribute concert honours life of beloved student
The life and memory of Charles Darwin University (CDU) student Md Isfaqur Rahman (Sifat) was honoured at a tribute concert last month.
The MonkMoney Tribute Concert for Sifat was organised by the Bangladeshi Student Association of Charles Darwin University (BSACDU) and the Bangladeshi Alumni Association of Charles Darwin University (BAACDU) and held at the CDU Amphitheatre at the Casuarina campus on Saturday, May 13.
The concert, held from 5pm to 10pm, featured a line-up of talented artists including Bangladeshi musician and singer-songwriter Topu, Bangladeshi rock band AvoidRafa and performances from local international communities.
Proceeds from the concert were contributed towards the Sifat Memorial Fund, created by the BSACDU to support initiatives such as safe accommodation, transport and safety for international students coming to Darwin.
BSACDU representatives welcomed the Darwin community to celebrate Sifat’s life and contribute to increased safety for local international students.
“Sifat was a new international student in Darwin, and his passing has served as a powerful reminder of the importance of safety and well-being for our international students,” they said.
CDU Vice-Chancellor Professor Scott Bowman said the work to support for Sifat and those affected by the tragedy was a testament to all students at Charles Darwin University who want to improve the community’s safety and support our wonderful current and future international students
“In this difficult and heartbreaking time, the tribute Concert for Sifat was an opportunity for the community to gather, grieve and celebrate this much-loved and passionate student,” Professor Bowman said.
“We commend the efforts of the Bangladeshi Student Association of Charles Darwin University, one of our most active and passionate student groups, taking initiative to raise awareness, improve community safety and honour Sifat.”
