CDU welcomes new Dean of Graduate Studies

Charles Darwin University (CDU) welcomes Professor Tara Brabazon AM to the role of Dean of Graduate studies to lead the growth strategy and development of research training at the University.

Charles Darwin University’s (CDU) new Dean of Graduate Studies is bringing her decades of tertiary education experience working in Australia, Canada and the UK to help improve research training.

The University welcomes the appointment of Professor Tara Brabazon to the role of Dean of Graduate Studies.

The role will also activate growth in the University’s Higher Degree by Research (HDR) Masters by Research and PhD student numbers and promote the program within the University, regionally and internationally.

Professor Brabazon comes to CDU with an impressive background having held academic positions at nine universities across four countries in roles such as Head of Department, Head of School, Faculty Dean and Dean of Graduate Studies.

She is also an accomplished researcher having published over 20 books, 250 referred articles and has written hundreds of essays and opinion pieces on higher education and the arts, including for the Times Higher Education.

On her appointment Professor Brabazon said she looks forward to supporting the University’s research community and making a difference in the Territory.

"In many ways, my 30-year academic career has led me to the Dean of Graduate Studies role at CDU.  Each day, I will appreciate the privilege of caring for the next generation of scholars and leaders," Professor Brabazon said.

"Regional, rural and remote education matters and throughout my career I have been committed to regional education in Australia, Canada and the UK.” 

“I feel so incredibly lucky to contribute to research and teaching excellence in graduate education," she said.

CDU Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Steve Rogers said the University is thrilled to have Professor Brabazon on board and looks forward to working towards achieving the University’s strategic research priorities.

“CDU is exceptionally pleased to have Tara in this role, and I look forward to seeing how her experience and knowledge will help shape and develop our research area,” Professor Rogers said.

Professor Brabazon will commence on 2 May, 2023.
