Accessing this page for a selected curriculum item in a Structure or Dependencies (CRSW2600) automatically activates the Impact Analysis function for the selected curriculum item.
This function is useful to run prior to making a change to a curriculum item to determine what will be impacted by the potential change to the curriculum item.
The Impact Analysis function lists:
Any directly related curriculum items returned in the first query, are subsequently analysed for further impacts, so that all indirect impacts in Structures and Dependencies are also returned.
Impacted curriculum items are listed in hierarchical order in the 'Curriculum Item Type' column on the Impact Analysis page: with directly impacted CI Types displayed at a parent level, and indirect Structure and Dependencies relationships displayed at a secondary level in context of the parent curriculum item.
For example:
For a unit, the Impact Analysis function returns all directly related Relationships in which the unit exists (in Structures, Dependencies, Timelines and Precedents). It then in turn, returns any Structures and Dependencies in which the directly-related item exists.
Figure 2: Direct and indirect impacts.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This function is equivalent to the Impact Analysis function that is initiated when rolling over a course, unit set or unit to a new version in CRSF1210, CRSF4200 and CRSF2210, in SMS Forms; except that unlike Impact Analysis which includes both direct and indirect impacts, only 'direct' relationships are included in the rollover.
Parent curriculum items identified and listed on the Impact Analysis page are potentially impacted by future changes to the context curriculum item, such as, a rollover of the curriculum item to a new version.
A Timeline (CRSW2650) is included in the list of impacts in the following instances:
A Precedent (PRDW0400) may be included in the list of results if it has a status mapped to a system status of ACTIVE, REVIEW or REJECTED, and has one of the following Relationships containing the context course or unit version: 'External Course to Internal Course', 'External Course to Course Type Group', 'Internal Course to Internal Course', 'External Unit to Internal Unit', 'Admission Band to Internal Course', or Internal Unit to Internal Unit.
Note: Precedent records are only displayed in the list of impacted objects if the 'Precedents' option is selected from the Include drop-down list.
It is expected that you will use this page to view potential impacts prior to making changes to a curriculum item. For example, you would run an Impact Analysis prior to rolling over the curriculum item to a new version (via CRSF1210, CRSF2210 or CRSF4200), updating the status of the new version to ACTIVE, or end-dating the previous version.
Results may differ depending on whether you are running the Impact Analysis for a 'latest version' (i.e. CI CODE.VERSION) of a curriculum item or an explicit (specific) version. And the 'latest version' is the same or different to the context curriculum item for which you are running the Impact Analysis.
Examples:
The following records are not included in an Impact Analysis:

Impact Type | Possible Impacted 'Curriculum Item Types' | Description of 'Curriculum Item Type' |
---|---|---|
Structure | Course or Unit Set | A parent curriculum item (course or unit set) to which the context curriculum item is connected in a Structure (CRSW2600). Note: A Unit Set in which a context unit belongs is listed in the Impact Analysis results once only regardless of how many instances of the Unit Set appear in a Course Structure. The Relationship to which the curriculum item is connected is also included in the Impact Analysis results. For more information, see Field Descriptions, below. |
Dependency | Course, Unit Set or Unit | The parent curriculum item to which the context curriculum item is connected in Dependencies (CRSW2600). The Relationship (i.e. the 'Dependency') to which the parent curriculum item is connected is also included in the Impact Analysis results. For more information, see Field Descriptions, below. |
Timeline | Course | The parent course in a Course Structure with a COMPLETE or INCOMPLETE Timeline (CRSW2650) that contains the context curriculum item (i.e. unit or unit set) and that curriculum item is selected in the Timeline. The context curriculum item must have at least one selected cell in a Timeline to be reported in the Impact Analysis. If the context curriculum item has more than one parent in a Course Structure, then Timelines may be listed multiple times in the list of results but with a different Relationship for each. For a Timeline with a status of INCOMPLETE that contains the selected context curriculum item, the Impact Analysis function lists all Relationships directly associated to the context curriculum item for all current instances of Structures to which the Timeline belongs. For a Timeline with a status of COMPLETE that contains the selected context curriculum item, the Impact Analysis function lists all Relationships directly associated to the context curriculum item for all instances of Structures (both current and end-dated) to which the Timeline belongs. |
Precedent | Course, Unit Set or Unit | The context curriculum item belonging to one of the following Relationships in a Precedent (PRDW0400) (with a status of ACTIVE, REVIEW or REJECTED):
Note: Version-less courses in Precedents are not included in the Impact Analysis results. |
The following table describes each field on the Impact Analysis page.
By default, listed items are sorted by Curriculum Item Type, Impact Type, and Code. If required, you can re-sort the records in each column by clicking the ASC or DESC symbol in the column.
The context curriculum item is displayed in the block above the table. This is the curriculum item that you selected in the Structure or Dependencies (CRSW2600) page. The curriculum item code, version number and title of the context curriculum item, is displayed. It also links to the relevant Details pop-up page (CRSW2610, CRSW2620 or CRSW2630).
Details displayed in these fields are display-only. Use the scroll bar to scroll through the list of records, or filter the results using the available Search functions.
Field: | Description: |
---|---|
Curriculum Item Type | The type of curriculum item (i.e. course, unit set or unit) that will be impacted by a potential change to the context curriculum item.
Table Values: N/A |
Impact Type | This is the entity in which the parent curriculum item is located. Possible values are:
Only Precedents (PRDW0400) with a status of ACTIVE, REVIEW or REJECTED are listed. End-dated Precedents are not returned. Table Values: For Structures and Dependencies the value is derived from: S_RLTSHPL_LABEL For Timelines and Precedents the value is hard coded. |
Code | This value varies depending on the Impact Type, as follows:
Table Values: For Structures, Dependencies and Timelines: CRV.COURSE_CD or For Structures and Dependencies: US.UNIT_SET_CD or For Structures and Dependencies: UV.UNIT_CD For Precedents: PRD.PRECEDENT_ID |
Title | The title of the parent curriculum item.
For Structures, Dependencies and Timelines: CRV.SHORT_TITLE or For Structures and Dependencies: US.SHORT_TITLE or For Structures and Dependencies: UV.SHORT_TITLE For Precedents: PRECEDENT_TYPE.DESCRIPTION |
Relationship | Description of the Relationship that connects the context curriculum item to its parent curriculum item. Relationship descriptions differ according to the Impact Type, as follows:
For Structures, Dependencies and Timelines: If the parent curriculum item is a Course: RLTSHPL.DISPLAY_TEXT || ' - ' || RLTNQ.DISPLAY_TEXT||' ' ||CVRLTN.LOWER_QUALIFIER_VALUE||DECODE(CVRLTN.UPPER_QUALIFIER_VALUE,NULL,'',' AND '||CVRLTN.UPPER_QUALIFIER_VALUE) ||' '||RLTNQA.DISPLAY_TEXT (Note: For Timelines, the number of selections in the Timeline for the context curriculum item is appended to the Relationship value.) For Structures & Dependencies: If the parent curriculum item is a Unit Set: RLTSHPL.DISPLAY_TEXT || ' - ' || RLTNQ.DISPLAY_TEXT ||' '||USRLTN.LOWER_QUALIFIER_VALUE||DECODE(USRLTN.UPPER_QUALIFIER_VALUE,NULL,'',' AND '||USRLTN.UPPER_QUALIFIER_VALUE) ||' '||RLTNQA.DISPLAY_TEXT For Structures & Dependencies: If the parent curriculum item is a Unit: RLTSHPL.DISPLAY_TEXT || ' - ' || RLTNQ.DISPLAY_TEXT ||' '||UVRLTN.LOWER_QUALIFIER_VALUE||DECODE(UVRLTN.UPPER_QUALIFIER_VALUE,NULL,'',' AND '||UVRLTN.UPPER_QUALIFIER_VALUE) ||' '||RLTNQA.DISPLAY_TEXT For Precedents: PRECEDENT.PRECEDENT_CAT EXTERNAL_COURSE_TO_INTERNAL_COURSE, INTERNAL_COURSE_TO_INTERNAL_COURSE, EXTERNAL_COURSE_TO_COURSE_TYPE_GROUP, EXTERNAL_UNIT_TO_INTERNAL_UNIT |
