CRSW3000 - Outcome Framework
Table of Contents
Overview
The Outcome Framework defines the outcomes of course version by mapping the Course Outcomes against Unit Learning Outcomes, Graduate Attributes and AQF Learning Outcomes.
This page enables you to view and edit an Outcome Framework for a Course Version either directly via CRSF1210 or via a Course Proposal Instance.
Upon entry, the Course Version is in context, with the Course's AQF Level also displayed.
On this page, if you have the appropriate security privileges (see Navigation section below) you can relate Course Learning Outcomes to AQF Learning Outcomes, Graduate Attributes and Unit Learning Outcomes by clicking in the intersecting cells in the framework.
If Contributing Factors are defined by the institution (in CRSW3050), the Outcome Framework page enables a user to select a Contributing Factor between Course Learning Outcomes and Graduate Attribute and/or AQF Learning Outcomes. If Contributing Factors are not defined, users simply click in the intersecting cell to relate the two outcomes.
Cells in a framework row are highlighted when a mapping exists with the Course Learning Outcome for that column.
When an Outcome Framework is edited, the system ensures that start and end dates are maintained such that future historical reporting can provide details on which framework instance was in effect on any given date.
Note:
- There is no minimum mapping requirement in the framework and a user can have as many outcomes mapped as appropriate.
- The validity of the framework content relies upon existing Proposals review processes or the internal review processes of CSP Administrators.
Navigation
You can reach this page via CRSF1210 or as part of a proposal from PAAW1100.
If entered via CRSF1210, you, or your security role, must have been granted the LO-EDIT Advanced Function to be able to make changes to Outcome Framework, otherwise you will just be able to view it. Changes will take effect immediately when editing is allowed.
If launched via a Proposal instance, the system conforms to the Proposal Type’s rules regarding the editing of the proposal element and item. The Course Version and the Outcome Framework will be updated when the Proposal is transferred.
Accessing the Course Outcome framework via CRSF1210.
- Go to CRSW1210
- Query for the required Course Version.
- Click on the Other Course Detail ... button.
- Click on the Outcome Framework button.
- When navigating to to CRSW3000 for the first time for a Course Version. A message displays to ask if you would like to create a an Outcome Framework for that Course Version. Click Yes and a record will be created in the LEARNING_OUTCOME_RELATIONSHIP table for each cell in the Outcome Framework. Each of these records will have a blank START_DATE value until a relationship are mapped.
- When navigating from CRSF1210, if a user has the LO-EDIT Advanced Security Function, then the Outcome Framework can be edited. If the user does not have that Advanced Security Function, the Outcome Framework will display in read only mode.
- When loading the Outcome Framework via CRSF1210, the system ensures that any updates applied to any relevant Learning Outcomes are included.
Accessing the Course Outcome framework via Proposals.
- If a Proposal contains the system CRSOUTFW element then, in PAAW1100 at that step in the creation of the Course Proposal, CRSW3000 is launched via a button.
- The Outcome Framework page supports both an edit view and a read only view of a framework instance, based on your Proposal privileges. Users given access to make Outcome Framework changes in Proposals should be of the same standing as those who have the LO-EDIT Advanced Security function described above.

Contributing Factors |
These values may be defined in CRSW3010 and describe the way that a Unit Learning Outcome and/or Graduate Attribute contributes to a Course Learning Outcome. e.g. 'Develops', 'Masters', 'Introduces', etc.
When they have been defined in the system, Contributing Factors are selected in the Outcome Framework when a Graduate Attribute or Unit Learning Outcome is mapped to a Course Learning Outcome. The cell will then become highlighted and display the Contributing factor text displayed. In the LEARNING_OUTCOME_RELATIONSHIP table, the corresponding record will have an LO_RELATIONSHIP_TYPE value equal to the Contributing Factor text.

Outcome Framework Mappings
Recording Mappings
- When the Outcome Framework is initially created, a record for each cell in the framework is created in the LEARNING_OUTCOME_RELATIONSHIP table. The SUP_LO_SEQUENCE_NUMBER value is the SEQUENCE_NUMBER of the Course Learning Outcome and the SUB_LO_SEQUENCE_NUMBER is the SEQUENCE_NUMBER of Unit Learning Outcome, AQF Learning Outcome or Graduate Attribute and the START_DT and END_DT values are null.
- When a mapping is initially saved the START_DT for that LEARNING_OUTCOME_RELATIONSHIP record is set to the current date.
Removing Mappings
- Click in the highlighted cell and then click on the Save or Save & Close button.
The START_DT value for the corresponding LEARNING_OUTCOME_RELATIONSHIP table is cleared.
- For mappings which contain Contributing Factors, click in the highlighted cell and then click on the Erase button.
The START_DT value for the corresponding LEARNING_OUTCOME_RELATIONSHIP table is cleared and the LO_RELATIONSHIP_TYPE is also cleared.
Recording Contributing Factors
- If Contributing Factors are defined by the institution (in CRSW3050) they can be made available for Graduate Attribute mappings and/or AQF Learning Outcome mappings. When a contributing factor is initially selected for a mapping, the LEARNING_OUTCOME_RELATIONSHIP table has the START_DT set to today's date and the LO_RELATIONSHIP_TYPE is set to equal the text for the Contributing Factor.
Changing Contributing Factors
- To change the Contributing Factor value, click in the highlighted cell and then select a different Contributing Factor value in the pop up and then click on the Save button..
The LO_RELATIONSHIP_TYPE is updated for the corresponding LEARNING_OUTCOME_RELATIONSHIP table record and a history record is created to record the previous relationship.
Outcome Framework History
- When a mapping is deleted, a corresponding record is created in the LEARNING_OUTCOME_REL_HIST table and the LEARNING_OUTCOME_RELATIONSHIP record has the START_DT cleared once again.
- If a different Contributing Factor is subsequently selected for the cell, a record is created in the LEARNING_OUTCOME_REL_HIST for the original relationship with the end date equal to today, while in the LEARNING_OUTCOME_RELATIONSHIP table the new LO_RELATIONSHIP_TYPE is set to equal the new Contributing Factor value .
Mapping AQF Learning Outcomes to Course Learning Outcomes

Adding Unit Learning Outcomes to the Outcome Framework (via CRSF1210)
- Navigate to CRSW3000 (see above)
- When the new Outcome Framework is created for a Course Version, no Unit Learning Outcomes are initially displayed.
- If Unit Learning Outcomes have previously been mapped to a Course Version, these will be displayed.
- Closed Unit Learning Outcomes will still appear in the framework, if they were included before they were closed.
- Unit Learning Outcomes from each Unit will be grouped together, in ASC sort order by Unit Code/Description.
- If the Unit Learning Outcome has an outcome ID defined for it, this well display ahead of the description text for the outcome. e.g. Skill 1 - Description of skill...
- Click on the Add Unit button
- Search for and select the Unit(s) to be added. The user can select one or more unit from the search results for inclusion in the framework. A basic search made is available as well as an advanced search mode with further search fields including Unit Code, Version, Title, Status, Level and Organisational Unit.
- Unit Versions which do not have Learning Outcomes defined cannot be selected.
- Where a Course Version has a defined Course Structure, any searches used to find and add units into the framework will be pre-populated with the relationships defined in the Course Structure, whilst no data pertaining to that course structure will be directly stored within the framework instance, the relationships will provide a simple way of searching within the structure in order to develop the framework instance mapping of outcomes.
- Regardless of whether a Course Version has a defined Course Structure, you will be able to search for and add Unit Versions to the framework for the mapping of outcomes.
- You can hide or collapse a Unit's Learning Outcomes in order to create more work space to work with other Unit Versions' Learning Outcomes.
- The Learning Outcomes for the selected Units will display.
- A user can map an individual Unit Learning Outcome to a Course Learning Outcome, or else they can click on an intersecting cell of a Course Learning Outcome and a Unit Code to map all the Unit's Learning Outcomes to the Course Learning Outcome.
- To remove a Unit from the framework, select the Unit and then click on the Remove Selected button. When the warning displays click on the Remove button to remove the unit.
- To map a Unit Learning Outcome to a Course Learning Outcome, click on the intersecting cell.
- To remove a mapping, click in the highlighted cell.
- Where Contributing Factors have been defined for Unit Learning Outcomes, select the appropriate value to define the relationship and click on the Use Selected button.
- To remove a mapping to a cell with a Contributing Factor selected, click in the cell and then click on the Erase button.
- When you click on the Save or Save & Close button your mappings will be saved.
Saving Changes to the Outcome Framework
- Click Save to save your changes and remain on this page.
- Click Save & Close to save your changes and return to CRSF1210 or PAAW1100.
The user is warned when they save the framework if there are any added units that don’t have any mappings for Course Learning Outcomes.
- Click Cancel to return to CRSF1210 or PAAW1100 without saving your changes.
Adding Unit Learning Outcomes to the Outcome Framework (via Proposals - PAAW1100)
- Where a course version is being updated by a proposal instance, the prior framework instance, if present, will have been copied and the new framework instance will be associated with the proposal instance and launching the Outcome Framework will enable working on the proposed framework instance changes.
- If the course structure and framework instance is being modified as part of a course proposal instance, then relationship data will be obtained via the proposed course structure, or if no proposed course structure exists, the current approved course structure. Whenever the Outcome Framework page is launched, the course structure will be read to obtain a fresh view of the relationships to be used while searching.
If the framework instance is being modified as part of a course proposal instance, then the new framework instance should have access to the proposed Course Learning Outcome data if present. If not present, the currently approved Course Learning Outcome data should be available.
Adjusting your View of the framework
- You can adjust the view of the data within the framework by collapsing sections of the view e.g. collapsing a given Unit's Learning Outcomes or a set of Graduate Attributes or AQF Outcomes so they are not visible.
- You can also filter the view so that only certain Course Learning Outcomes, Units, Unit Learning Outcomes, AQF Learning Outcomes or Graduate Attributes are displayed.
