FIELD NAME |
DESCRIPTION |
Where a student lodges an appeal against a progression outcome, the following details relating to that appeal are recorded (in PRGF6610). Expiry date. |
Appeal Cut Off Date Alias |
This date alias represents the last date, beyond which any derived Appeal Expiry Date cannot be set. See Derivation of Show Cause / Appeal Expiry Date. |
Appeal Expiry Date |
The final date by which a student can lodge an appeal. It is derived for each student allowed an appeal period. This derivation assumes all students should be given an equal number of days in which to appeal (but may be less where the derived date would be later than the cut off date). An authorised user can override this derived date. |
indicator |
The setting of this indicator (in configuring Progression) determines whether an appeal period is available to a student. It must be set at the system-wide configuration level, for appeal to be available at any other level. |
Appeal Length |
A numeric value (entered as part of configuring Progression) used in deriving the Appeal Expiry date for a student. |
A numeric value setting a limit on the number of times a progression rule can be applied to any given student. An optional setting when linking a progression calendar type to a Rule Category, Rule or Rule Application. |
Applied Date |
Date on which an outcome is applied to a student course attempt, either manually (in form PRGF6610) or through the running of PRGJ6800. |
Apply Automatically indicator |
An indicator (set when defining a progression outcome) which, if set, allows the automatic application of the outcome to a student course attempt. Where not set, the outcome is added as a recommendation that requires approval before it can be applied. |
Apply End Date Alias |
Date alias to represent the date at which automatic application of progression rules (checking a student for the first time in a progression period) ends. After this date, only TODO entries are checked (see PRGJ6100). |
Apply Outcome Before Appeal indicator |
Indicates whether an outcome (resulting from failure of a progression rule) may be applied before an appeal period ends. This indicator can be set at one of three configuration levels, with organisational unit and course version configuration overriding the system-wide level. Default recommended is Yes. |
Apply Outcome Before Show Cause indicator |
Indicates whether an outcome (resulting from failure of a progression rule) may be applied before a show cause period ends. This indicator can be set at one of three configuration levels, with organisational unit and course version configuration overriding the system-wide level. Default recommended is No. |
Apply Start Date Alias |
A date alias to represent the date on which the automatic process of checking students against progression rules (through job PRGJ6100) can begin in a progression period. |
Calculate GPA indicator |
Where set, a student's Grade Point Average can be calculated and displayed as required. It is not dependent on the evaluation of progression rules, which use a GPA value. |
Calculate WAM indicator |
Where set, a student's Weighted Average Mark can be calculated and displayed as required. It is not dependent on the evaluation of progression rules, which use a WAM value. |
Count Exclusion/Suspension In Time indicators |
These indicators may be set at one of three configuration levels. Where set, they indicate that exclusion/suspension is to be counted in time calculations relating to the applicable Student Course Attempt. (Future functionality). |
Decision Status |
When an outcome is added to a student course attempt, this indicates the current status of the decision in relation to this outcome. One of the following values may be used: PENDING (a recommended outcome requiring approval or waiving. The outcome cannot be applied until approved). |
Default Restricted Attendance Type |
A default value, recorded as part of the Progression Outcome Type, for any outcome with an associated encumbrance type and effect restricting enrolment to the given attendance type. |
Default Restricted Enrolment CPs |
A default value recorded as part of the Progression Outcome Type, for any outcome with an associated encumbrance type and effect restricting enrolment to the given credit point value. |
An entered numeric value to represent the period of time for which the context outcome will apply (in number of progression periods) to a Student Course Attempt. |
Duration Type |
Describes the duration type for the context outcome. The outcome could be applied for a given number of progression periods (Duration) and this may be one of two types - EFFECTIVE (effectively enrolled) or NORMAL. |
Effective End Date Alias |
Represents the end of a progression period. Any student unit attempt results recorded prior to this date contribute to that progression period. |
Encumb End Date |
Represents the expiry date for encumbrances, due to expire within the related progression period. A date alias must be nominated to represent this, in the system-wide progression configuration. Where an encumbrance end date alias does not exist, the calendar end date is used. |
Encumbrance Type -Enrolments |
A progression outcome type may have an associated academic encumbrance type. The process of applying/removing this outcome automatically creates/expires a Person Encumbrance record. See Enrolments. |
End Benefit Date Alias |
This date alias represents the final date, by which a progression outcome can be automatically altered to the benefit of a student. A student who initially failed a progression rule, had an amended result entered, is re-tested and now passes the rule should have the original outcome removed. If this re-test occurs before this date, the existing outcome can be automatically removed and the student's progression status returned to GOODSTAND. |
End Penalty Date Alias |
This date alias represents the final date, by which a progression outcome would be automatically altered, to the disadvantage of a student. A student who initially passed a progression rule, had an amended result entered, is re-tested and now fails the rule should have a progression outcome applied. If this re-test occurs after this date, the resulting outcome cannot be applied automatically. |
End Period |
A selected progression period marking the point at which, for a given student, the related progression rule application ends. An optional setting when linking a progression calendar type to a Rule Category, Rule or Rule Application. |
A numeric value (recorded when defining a progression outcome). The outcome can be applied where a student has failed this rule this number of times. |
- Progression |
Grade Point Average. A calculated value that can be used for measuring a student's progress. See also Assessments. |
Outcome Check Type |
A configuration setting that determines the type of student unit attempt outcomes that must exist, before progression rule evaluation can begin. The three possible types are: |
Progression Measures |
Measures that can be used in constructing progression rules and evaluating a student's progress. The available types are GPA, WAM, Proportional Failure, Unit Failure and Research Milestones. (See Progression Rules Overview.) |
Progression Rule Outcome Type |
An institution defined code that, along with its description and associated detail, defines an outcome that can be linked to a progression rule. |
Progression Status |
This status indicates the current standing of a Student Course Attempt in relation to progression. The failure of progression rules and the subsequent decision status of resulting outcomes trigger the system updating of the status. GOODSTAND (where no outcomes are currently pending or active). Where a Student Course Attempt has multiple approved (and no pending) outcomes, the progression status reflects the most severe (here they are listed from least down to most severe). |
A numeric value (entered when defining a progression outcome) to order alternative outcomes (those with the same failure/repeat failure type). The highest ranked outcome is given the value of 1. |
-Progression |
A user-defined code entered for an 'application-specific' rule. Used to enable easy identification of the rule, rather than having to use the full rule text. |
Repeat Failure Type |
A system-defined value (selected when defining a progression outcome) representing the type of failure to which this outcome may apply - consecutive failures (CONSECRPT) or non-consecutive (REPEAT). |
Rqrmnts Complete indicator |
An indicator set when a student has completed the requirements for a course. It is set in PRGF4170. The evaluation of the student course attempt against completion rules (using PRGF9030) can be used to assist in determining completion, prior to setting this indicator. |
Rule Category |
A user-defined category within which progression rules are grouped. Each rule category is mapped to a System Rule Call Code. |
Rule Code |
A user-defined code entered for a general application progression rule. Use to enable easy identification of the rule. |
Rule Text |
The constructed rule that includes allowable operators, parameters & variables. |
Show Cause |
Where a student makes a show cause submission related to a progression outcome, the following details about that submission may be viewed and/or recorded (in PRGF6610). Expiry date |
Show Cause Cut Off Date Alias |
This date alias represents the last date for a progression period, beyond which a derived Show Cause Expiry Date cannot be set. See Derivation of Show Cause / Appeal Expiry Date. |
Show Cause Expiry Date |
The final date at which the student can show cause. It is derived for each student allowed a show cause period, when an outcome is approved. This derivation assumes all students should be given an equal number of days in which to show cause (but may be less where the derived date would be later than the cut off date). An authorised user can override this derived date. |
Show Cause indicator |
The setting of this indicator determines whether a show cause period is available to a student. It must be set at the system-wide configuration level, for show cause to be available at any other level. |
Show Cause Length |
A numeric value (entered as part of configuring Progression) used in deriving the Show Cause Expiry Date for a student. |
Start Period |
A selected progression period marking the point at which, for a given student, the related progression rule application can begin. An optional setting when linking a progression calendar type to a Rule Category, Rule or Rule Application. |
Stream Number |
A number used to identify progression calendars as being part of a logical sequence (or stream). Progression streams are used in the derivation of expiry dates for a progression outcome (and any associated encumbrance). |
Student Start Period |
A numeric value setting a progression period (for a given student) as the one in which application of a progression rule can begin. An optional setting when linking a progression calendar type to a Rule Category, Rule or Rule Application. |
System Element -Progression |
A component of the system, to which a rule is linked when creating a progression rule application: Course Type, Organisational Unit, Course Version, Student Course Attempt. |
System Progression Check Type |
A system defined value that describes the type of rule check performed. Possible values are SYSTEM, MANUAL, and TODO. |
System Progression Rule Outcome Type |
These system-defined values determine the allowable links between outcomes and encumbrances. Possible types are EXCLUSION, EXPULSION, MANUAL, NOPENALTY, PROBATION and SUSPENSION. |
System Rule Call Code |
This system defined value controls access to the groups of rules that exist in the Rules Subsystem. The rule operators, parameters and functions available when constructing rules are controlled by this system rule call code linked to the rule category. Some of these codes include PRG-GPA, PRG-WAM, PRG-UFAIL, and PRG-PRO. |
Weighted Average Mark. A calculated value that can be used for measuring a student's progress. |
