Use this form to attach assessment items to unit offerings.
- Query the unit offering pattern.
- Enter assessment item ID. This can be entered:
- Manually to attach an existing and known assessment item;
- By creating an assessment item. Select the Assessment Item button to access Maintain Assessment Items (ASSF2100). Create the assessment item and save. Upon closing the form the new assessment item is inserted automatically and must be saved at this point; or
- By searching for an existing assessment item. Select the Find Assessment Item button to access Find Unit Assessment Item (ASSF2311). Perform query and select the assessment item, all assessment items associated with the context unit are displayed by default. Upon closing the form, the selected assessment item is automatically inserted and must be saved at this point.
- A appearing next to an assessment item ID indicates that the assessment item is part of a default assessment pattern only. A appearing next to an assessment item ID indicates that the assessment item is a part of a non-default assessment pattern only. Where appears, the assessment item belongs to both default and non-default assessment patterns.
- Record a Reference (mandatory) for the assessment item. For example: assignment 1 (or simply the number 1), assig 2, mid-sem exam. Reference must be a unique value within each unit offering option assessment type.
- Selecting the Default checkbox indicates that the assessment item will be automatically allocated to all students enrolled in the unit using the Automatically Maintain Student Unit Attempt Assessment Item process (ASSJ3212). Deselecting it will leave the assessment item as optional. (These may be attached to student units manually using the Maintain Student Unit Assessment Items form (ASSF3222)). * See note on default assessment patterns.
- The examinable indicator shows whether or not the assessment item is an examinable assessment type.
- Select the scheduled indicator if an examinable assessment item is to be scheduled in the examination timetable.
- Optionally record the due date for the assessment item. If the assessment item is an assignment that is to be tracked via the specialised assignment tracking facility, a due date must be recorded. When tracking items for assignments are automatically created in the Initiate Tracking Items for Assignments report (ASSJ3610), the System uses the due date to derive the action date for the tracking step 'Received from Student'.
- To limit an assessment item to a particular unit offering option, record further details in the overflow box. If no limits are specified, default assessment items are assigned to all students enrolled in the unit in the teaching period. Similarly, if non-default assessment items are not limited, they are available for manual assignment to all students. If limits are specified, then default items are assigned only to student unit attempts with matching attributes. Similarly, non-default assessment items with specified limits are only available for manual assignment to student unit attempts with matching attributes.
- The deletion date is the date automatically entered by the System when the unit assessment item is deleted.
- The action date is inserted by the System on saving the record. Callista uses the action date to determine if there are any changes to a unit assessment item that need to be applied to students enrolled in the unit, via the process Apply Unit Assessment Item Modifications to Student Units (ASSJ3213).
- Where a unit offering pattern is related to more than one exam period
(eg. year long units), individual unit assessment items may be for different exam periods. For example, a unit offered in a year long teaching period might have two examinations; one mid year and one at the end of the year. Each of these examinable assessment items is therefore related to a different examination period. This relationship can be created by specifying the appropriate examination calendar type for each assessment item. If the teaching period spans multiple instances of an examination calendar type (eg. a teaching period that starts in semester 1 of one year and ends in semester 1 of the following year) then it is necessary to specify the examination calendar instance to which the assessment is related. If examination calendar type or instance is not specified, the System will assume that the assessment item is related to all of the teaching period's parent examination calendars.
Note: where multiple assessment items from another unit are to be attached, a simpler method is to duplicate the unit that the assessment items are attached to within the Maintain Basic Unit Details form (CRSF2210). The unit code can be changed before saving the new unit. When duplicating a unit the attached assessment items are also duplicated.
When creating a new version of a unit, the unit can be rolled over. All associated details including assessment items will be copied into the new version also. See the Maintain Basic Unit Details form ( CRSF2210) for details on creating a new version of a unit. |
Rules:
- Assessment items can only be linked to unit offering options where the unit version is ACTIVE.
- An assessment item can be linked to a unit offering pattern more than once. However, there are some validations:
The same assessment item cannot be entered without restrictions and then be entered with a specific restriction. Consequently an assessment item cannot be entered with a specific restriction and then entered with no restrictions or entered twice with the same details.
An assessment item cannot be restricted on both Unit Mode and Unit Class in the same restriction.
An assessment item may have restrictions on the same location but with differing unit mode or unit class, however, they should not overlap.
Reference:
Must be recorded for examinable items and assignments.
For examinable items:
Must be unique for each item
Must be the same in each record when a particular assessment item is associated with a different offering option of the same unit offering pattern. (includes deleted items) E.g. Assessment Item 22 with a reference of 1 is associated with a unit offering option at location A. If 22 is also associated with a unit offering at location B, that record must also have a reference value of 1.
For non-examinable items of assessment type ASSIGNMENT, reference must be unique for a particular assessment type associated with a unit offering pattern. E.g. Where a unit offering pattern has two assessment items of type ASSIGNMENT associated with it, each must have a unique reference.
For non-examinable items with an assessment type other than ASSIGNMENT, reference is optional.
Assessment Pattern Assessment Items:
Cannot be deleted. Remove the item from the pattern before deleting.
Cannot be restricted to a particular location, mode or class that differs from the restrictions applied to the pattern. Either modify the pattern or remove the assessment item from the pattern to modify.
* Where an assessment item exists in a default assessment pattern, it can be created as a default assessment item in its own right as long as the offering option does not overlap. For example: the assessment pattern may be for location B, and the item may also exist as a default for location C.
