Image File Add & Upload form

This form is used to create and upload images for use as elements or components of web pages created in Connect Builder. Every image to be made available for use as a web page element or page body background must be assigned a label in this form.

Image maps can also be applied to images. To use an image map, the image map must be defined in the Maintain Image Map form. The area tags for the image must also be defined in the Maintain Image Map Area Tags form. The NAME recorded against the image map must be recorded in the Usemap field of the image in the Maintain Image form. When the image is applied to a web page body, the image map must also be applied as a sibling of the image in Connect Builder. The area targets should be recorded as subordinates of the image map in the relationship builder.

For more details on the creation of web pages refer to the specialist topic Understanding the Web Administrator.

1. Navigate to this form via the Upload File Systems Web Elements option in the site map.

2. Select the element type IMAGE from the list of values (LOV).  Currently the only element type available for selection is IMAGE

3. Select the Edit button to access the Choose Web Element Type window and add another type of  web element.

4. Select the OK button to navigate to the Image File Add & Upload Form window.

5. (i) To create an image web element:

    • In the Image File Add & Upload form record an element code and description.

5.(ii) Optionally, several other attributes of the image can be defined. These attributes are:

    • Align - used to define the alignment of text around the image. Select the alignment from the LOV.
    • Alt - used to define a tooltip for the image. The tooltip is text that displays in a yellow pop-up when the mouse is held over the image on the web page. Record the text to display in the field provided.
    • Border - allows the size of the image border to be defined where the image is used as an anchor.
    • Height and Width - defining the height and width of the image can assist in the speed of loading a web page as the browser knows how much space to leave for an image.
    • ID - similar to the CLASS command in HTML, ID is used to incorporate style sheets into Javascript or DHTML.
    • Name - again used to identify the particular item, similar to ID.
    • Usemap - is used to record the name of an image map that is to be applied to the image. A #must appear in front of the name of the image map. For example: an image map has the name fred. In the Usemap field #fred would be entered to link the image map to the image.

6. Select the relevant Virtual Location where the image file will be uploaded. (Note:  Virtual directories for images are specified during system installation. Refer to the technical documentation for further details.)

    • Select the Browse... button to search for the image file to be inserted into the Virtual Location (upload directory).

7. If the Style Override indicator is selected, the global or individual style overrides any inline style elements applied to the image. If the Style Override is unchecked, an inline style applied to the image overrides the global or individual style for the element unless it has been listed as a replacement element in the global or individual style.

8. The Closed indicator prevents further access to the image and suppresses it from all image LOV's within the web administrator functionality.

9. Select the Insert button to save the image as a web element. The Maintain Web Image window appears to allow you to edit or delete the image element.

10. Select the Preview Button to view the image in the web browser.
