Maintain Web Image

This form is used to maintain images for use as elements or components of web pages created in Connect Builder. A web image can also be used as the background for a web page body. Every image to be made available for use as a web page element or page body background must be assigned a label in this form and optionally associated with a link (from the image).

Image maps can also be applied to images. To use an image map, the image map must be defined in the Maintain Image Map form. The area tags for the image must also be defined in the Maintain Image Map Area Tags form. The NAME recorded against the image map must be recorded in the Usemap field of the image in the Maintain Image form. When the image is applied to a web page body, the image map must also be applied as a sibling of the image in Connect Builder. The area targets should be recorded as subordinates of the image map in the relationship builder.

For more details on the creation of web pages refer to the specialist topic Understanding the Web Administrator.

i. Files,

ii. System Web Elements.

4. To access Web Images:

i. Select the element type IMAGE from the list of values (LOV) and the relevant virtual directory for image files. (Note:  Virtual directories for images are specified during system installation. Refer to the technical documentation for further details.)

ii. Select OKAY to navigate to the Maintain Web Image (Directory Listing) window. This window contains a list of all files in the selected virtual directory. Image files already created as web elements have an element code and description.

iii. Open the Maintain Web Image window by selecting the required image file then clicking the adjacent icon .

5. To make an image file available as a web element

i. In the Maintain Web Image window, record an element code and description.

ii. Select the Preview Button to view a sample of the image.

iii. Select the Insert button to save.

6. Whenever image web element details are altered, select the UPDATE button to save changes.

7. Optionally, several other attributes of the image can be defined. These attributes are:

i. Align - used to define the alignment of text around the image. Select the alignment from the LOV.

ii. Alt - used to define a tooltip for the image. The tooltip is text that displays in a yellow pop-up when the mouse is held over the image on the web page. Record the text to display in the field provided.

iii. Border - allows the size of the image border to be defined where the image is used as an anchor.

iv. Height and Width - defining the height and width of the image can assist in the speed of loading a web page as the browser knows how much space to leave for an image.

v. ID - similar to the CLASS command in HTML, ID is used to incorporate style sheets into Javascript or DHTML.

vi. Name - again used to identify the particular item, similar to ID.

vii. Usemap - is used to record the name of an image map that is to be applied to the image. A #must appear in front of the name of the image map. For example: an image map has the name fred. In the Usemap field #fred would be entered to link the image map to the image.

8. If the Style Override indicator is selected, the global or individual style overrides any inline style elements applied to the image. If the Style Override is unchecked, an inline style applied to the image overrides the global or individual style for the element unless it has been listed as a replacement element in the global or individual style.

9. The Closed indicator prevents further access to the image and suppresses it from all image LOV's within the web administrator functionality.

10. The Delete button deletes the web image (as an element), but does not remove the image file from the directory listing.

 Rules/Notes:

A web image cannot be deleted if it is currently being used in a web page.
