Course Offering Instance

Explanation

The Course Offering Instance block displays the current course offering instance record from CRSF1300. The displayed records in the Course Offering Pattern block are the offering pattern data for the context record.

Example

If course offering instance A300 - Bachelor of Arts, version x, Standard Academic Year, 1/1/97 to 31/12/97 is displayed in the Maintain Course Offerings form, and the Course Offering Patterns navigation button is selected, then this form will display A300 - Bachelor of Arts, version x, Standard Academic Year, 1/1/97 to 31/12/97 as the context record and any existing offering patterns relating to this record will be displayed.

To inquire on the offering patterns of a course offering instance other than that initially displayed:

This block does not permit a query to be entered. It is necessary to:

  1. Return to the Maintain Course Offerings form to select a different course offering and/or course offering instance or
  2. Return to the Maintain Basic Course Details form to select a completely different course and/or course version.
  3. Navigate back to the Maintain Course Offering Pattern form, selecting the desired course version, course offering and/or course offering instance as required.

Course Offering Pattern

Explanation

An offering pattern enhances the definition of a course offering instance through the assignment of further attributes to the course offering option. These attributes are primarily concerned with the availability of the course offering instance. A course offering instance can have more than one offering pattern.

Course admission is to course offering patterns.

Each attribute in this block is described in the subsystem glossary.

To define a course offering pattern for a particular course offering instance using the Maintain Course Offering Pattern form:

  1. Enter Insert Mode.
  2. Select the appropriate course offering option from the list of values in the Location Code field of a blank record.
  3. If this course offering option is available for offer to students, select the Offered checkbox. (optional)
  4. If this course offering has been rolled over from a previous version of its calendar, the Confirmed Offering checkbox may be selected to indicate that the detail of this offering has been checked subsequent to the rollover. (optional)
  5. If this offering pattern is available as an entry point through admissions, select the Entry Point checkbox. (optional)
  6. If it is desired that units available for pre-enrolment should be included in the enrolment, pre-enrolment function for this course offering option, select the Pre-enrol Units checkbox. (optional)
  7. If this course offering option is a currently valid enrolment option for students, select the Enrollable checkbox. (optional)
  8. If this course offering option is available through the Interactive Voice Response System, select the IVRS Avail checkbox. (optional)
  9. Enter the entry assessment score which is the minimum required for entry to the course offering pattern in the Minimum-Entry Assessment Scores field. (optional) This will override a value entered against the course offering instance.
  10. Enter the entry assessment score that is the minimum required to guarantee an offer of a position in the Guaranteed-Entry Assessment Scores field. (optional) This will override a value entered against the course offering instance.
  11. Enter the maximum acceptable cross credit points from each source in the Faculty, Location, Mode and/or Historical Faculty fields. (optional)
  12. Optionally record an admission contact by entering a known person ID or using the Find Person button and form.
  13. Optionally assign an admission assessment officer for the course offering pattern by entering a known person ID or using the Find Person button and form.
  14. A grading schema can be selected for the course offering pattern. When selected, the grading schema date range and description are displayed.
  15. Save.

Rules:

  • Course offering patterns cannot be added where:
    • any component of course offering option is CLOSED, especially attendance mode and attendance type .
    • the calendar instance in course offering instance is not ACTIVE.
    • The calendar type in course offering is CLOSED.
  • Course offering patterns cannot be added, modified or deleted where a course version is INACTIVE.
  • Only current or future dated grading schema can be selected for a course offering pattern.
  • Where recorded, the course offering pattern grading schema has precedence over the unit offering option grading schema unless the Unit Grading Schema Precedence checkbox has been selected in the Maintain Unit Offering Options form (CRSF2500).
  • Where the course grading schema is used, and has precedence over the unit grading schema, recommended grades are translated from the unit grading schema to the course schema. This process is performed using the Translate Student Unit Attempt Outcomes process (ASSJ5390).

To modify a course offering pattern for a particular course offering instance using the Maintain Course Offering Pattern form:

  1. Find the record to be modified.
  2. Modify the record as required.
  3. Save.

Rules:

  • Location Code, Attendance Mode and Attendance Type fields are protected against modification. Incorrectly entered data can be deleted and the correct data selected in a new record provided that the incorrect entry does not have any children records recorded against it.

To delete a course offering pattern from a particular course offering option using the Maintain Course Offering Pattern form:

  1. Ensure that the correct course offering instance is displayed in the Course Offering Instance block.
  2. Select the desired course offering pattern record in the Course Offering Pattern block.
  3. Delete record.

Changes within this form will have the following notable effects:

  • Defining a course offering pattern, defines the availability of a course offering option.
