Unit Offering Pattern

Explanation

The Unit Offering Pattern block (context block) displays the current offering pattern (context record) from the Maintain Unit Offerings form. The displayed records in the Unit Offering Option block are the offering options for the context record

Example

When a unit offering pattern is displayed in the Maintain Unit Offerings form and the Unit Offering Options navigation button selected, then this form will display the same offering pattern as the context record and any existing offering options relating to this record will be displayed.

To inquire on the unit offering options of a unit offering pattern other than that initially displayed:

This block does not permit a query to be entered. It is necessary to:

  1. Return to the Maintain Basic Unit Details form and select another unit version in order to query the unit offering options for one of that versions offering options and offering patterns or
  2. Return to the Maintain Unit Offerings form and select another unit offering and/or offering pattern in order to query the unit offering options for the pattern selected.

Unit Offering Option

Explanation

A unit offering option defines the ways a unit will be offered for a particular offering pattern. An offering option is defined in terms of the location at which the unit is being offered and the time and mode of classes.

Example

A particular offering pattern might have a unit version being offered in a semester 1 calendar in 1997. One offering option for that offering pattern might be to offer the unit on the Hayman Island campus, on campus and by evening classes.

To record an offering option for a unit version using the Maintain Unit Offering Options form:

  1. Enter Insert Mode.
  2. Select the location in which the unit is to be offered, from the list of values (or enter a valid value) in the Location field of a blank record.
  3. Select the unit class in which the unit is to be offered, from the list of values (or enter a valid value) in the Unit Class field. (Note that the unit class may have components of time and mode)
  4. If this unit is not available for enrolment etc. via an Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS), deselect the IVRS Avail checkbox. (default is selected)
  5. If this unit option is not being offered to students at this time (for example, because it has not been approved), deselect the Offered checkbox (default is selected).
  6. If the unit grading schema should take precedence over the course grading schema , select the Unit Grading Schema Precedence checkbox. (default is deselected). Course grading schemas are recorded in the Maintain Course Offering Patterns form (CRSF1500).
  7. If there is a maximum number of students permitted to enrol in the unit, enter this number in the Enrolment Quota field. (optional)
  8. If there are places reserved in the unit for any purpose (eg. for a later enrolment period) enter the number of reserved places in the Reserved Enrolment field. (optional)
  9. Select and enter a unit contact in the Unit Contact field. Note that selecting the Person icon button will invoke the Find Person form. On locating the unit contact in the Find Person form, click the OK button and the person's details will be returned to the Unit Contact field.
  10. Select the grading schema (mandatory) in which the unit is to be offered, from the LOV in the Grading Schema Code field. When selected the grading schema date range and description are displayed.
  11. Save.

Rules:

  • Unit offering options can only be added against locations of type CAMPUS.
  • Where a course offering pattern grading schema has been recorded, it has precedence over the unit offering option grading schema unless the Unit Grading Schema Precedence checkbox is selected.
  • Where a course grading schema has precedence, recommended student unit attempt grades are translated from the unit grading schema to the course grading schema using the Translate Student Unit Attempt Outcomes process (ASSJ5390).

To modify an offering option for a unit version using the Maintain Unit Offering Options form:

  1. Locate the unit offering option to be modified.
  2. Make any required changes.
  3. Save.

Rules:

  • The Location and Unit Class fields are protected against update.
  • Modification of a unit offering option is unlikely once the offering option has been set up correctly. ie. Modifications will usually be to correct incorrectly entered data only.
  • Unit offering options cannot be altered if the calendar instance in the unit offering pattern is not ACTIVE.
  • A unit offering option cannot be altered if the unit status is INACTIVE.

To delete a unit offering using the Maintain Unit Offering Options form:

  1. Ensure that the correct unit version is displayed in the Unit Version block.
  2. Select the desired unit offering record.
  3. Delete record.
  4. Save.

Rules:

  • A unit offering can only been deleted if it has not been used elsewhere in the system. Deleting an offering is an unlikely event except where the offering was incorrectly entered in the first place.
