Any Research candidate will have one or more supervisors over the period of their candidature. This form enables the recording of information about the supervision of this candidature. It is accessed from the Candidature form (RESF3211) using the Supervision button. The Supervision button shows a plus (+) symbol if:
This form can also be accessed via the Student Course Attempt Inquiry form (INQF1200) via the Res Supervisors button. However, if accessed in this manner, the user can only perform queries in the form. The Funding Percentage values are significant as they and their associated Organisational Unit entries define the teaching responsibility for the research unit (at Student Course Attempt level) and are used in the disbursement of income to organisational units. This form can be accessed from the main menu. |

Rules/Notes: When this form is accessed via the main menu, records can be updated.
The Supervision Percentage is the percentage of supervision (of the candidate's total time) that an individual supervisor is responsible for supervising the candidate. The Funding Percentage is the percentage of research load that is apportioned for funding purposes to the specified Organisational Unit. The ORG. UNIT RESTRICTION ACTIVE Lamp is displayed if the Organisational Unit LOV has been restricted to specific Organisational Types or Member Types in SECF0060.

The Candidature block is a context block and fields within this block cannot be altered. In the Research Supervisor block, enter details about one or more people who will supervise this candidate. Navigation buttons allow the retrieval of details for someone already recorded within the system or the addition of a person external to the institution. An external supervisor's profession may be recorded and comments can be added. A Supervision Start Date is required, but an End Date is optional. Where an existing supervisor ceases their role as a supervisor, an End Date should be entered against this supervisor. A 'chain of supervision' can be recorded by using the Replaced Person ID field and entering the preceding supervisor's ID number against a new supervisor. A Supervision Percentage value must be entered. A Funding Percentage (%) value can only be set for people recorded in the system as staff members of the institution.
A Supervisor cannot be linked to a Closed Supervisor Type. These institution-defined supervisor types are entered/maintained using RESF3122 |
Rules/Notes: It is mandatory to record at least one Research Supervisor at the Admissions stage. If two or more supervisors are entered, both the Supervision Percentage and the Funding Percentage must total 100%. A warning displays where differing values are entered in these two fields.Where a supervision record is end dated, the start date of the next supervisor's record must be the following day. Supervisor records must always be continuous regardless of the circumstances, including during periods of intermission or on re-admission. A warning displays where a supervisor is an existing student of the institution (i.e. has a Student Course Attempt status of 'ENROLLED', 'INACTIVE', 'INTERMIT' or 'LAPSED'). An active Organisational Unit entry is required if Supervisor is a staff member. If a Funding percentage figure is entered, an Organisational Unit must also be specified. |
