Structure Block Cross-Listing Configuration

This form is used to configure aspects of the SMS-LMS Cross-Listing interface when creating Cross-Listed units in SCCLMAIN in Staff Connect, as required by an institution.

Much of this form controls the SCCLMAIN page in Staff Connect that is used to create or maintain Cross-Listings for the purpose of downloading cross-listed unit data from SMS into an institution's Learning Management System (LMS).

Configuration options include the ability to:

  • Define the maximum length of Cross-Listing Codes and Names that can be created for Cross-Listings.
  • Enable/Disable the automatic generation of a default Cross-Listing Code (i.e. turn on/off the CRSK_SET_CL_CD.CRSP_SET_CL_CD Open Source routine that automatically generates a default Cross-Listing Code).
  • Enable/Disable the ability to override default Cross-Listing Codes.
  • Enable/Disable the ability to change a Cross-Listing Code after the Cross-Listing has been loaded to an LMS.
  • Limit the number of units that can be added to a Cross-Listing.
  • Limit the number of Teaching Periods that can be selected, from which units can be used to create a Cross-Listing.

For more information, see the SMS-LMS Interface Online Help page.

Cross-Listing Configuration:

Maximum Data Length block:

  • Cross-Listing Code
  • Cross-Listing Short Name
  • Cross-Listing Long Name

Options block:

  • Auto Generate Cross-Listing Code - (check box)
  • Enable Cross-Listing Default Code Override - (check box)
  • Enable Cross-Listing Code Change after Loaded to LMS - (check box)
  • Maximum Number of Units in a Cross-Listing
  • Maximum Number of Teaching Periods in a Cross-Listing

The fields in the 'Maximum Data Length' block are used to define the maximum number of characters that can be added in the following free-text fields on the SCCLMAIN screen in Staff Connect, when creating a Cross-Listing:

  • Cross-Listing Code - a number between 1 and 100
  • Short Name - a number between 1 and 40
  • Long Name - a number between 1 and 100

Options block:

  • Auto Generate Cross-Listing Code check box. If selected, enables the automatic generation of a default Cross-Listing Code when creating a Cross-Listing for the first time in SCCLMAIN in Staff Connect.
    • If enabled, the format and content of the default Cross-Listing Codes will be defined by the Open Source routine: CRSK_SET_CL_CD.CRSP_SET_CL_CD. This routine will create default codes by concatenating the unit codes of all units in the Cross-Listing with the Teaching Periods from which those units are drawn, with each element separated by an underscore. For example, ABC101_AAB100_SEM-1_2011_SEM-2_2011.
Note, that this Open Source routine can be modified, as required, by an institution to return a Cross-Listing code in an institution-defined format.
    • The default value for this check box is 'Y' (i.e. selected).
    • If this check box is deselected, then the 'Enable Cross-Listing Code Change after Loaded to LMS' check box (below) must be selected.

Note: A default code is generated only once when a Cross-Listing is first created. If you later modify the Cross-Listing a new default code is not re-generated.

  • Enable Cross-Listing Default Code Override check box. If selected, enables administrators to change the name of a default Cross-Listing Code in SCCLMAIN when creating a new Cross-listing.
    • The default value for this check box is 'N' (i.e. deselected).
    • This check box must be selected if the 'Auto Generate Cross-Listing Code' check box (above) is deselected.
  • Enable Cross-Listing Code Change after Loaded to LMS check box. If selected, enables administrators to change the name of a Cross-Listing code in SCCLMAIN after the Cross-Listing has been uploaded to an LMS.
    • For example, this option may be used if a copy (new version) of a Cross-Listing that has been transferred to an LMS, is created; (for example, new units added or units removed from the Cross-Listing).
    • The default value for this check box is 'N' (i.e. deselected).
  • Maximum Number of Units in a Cross-Listing. Used to limit the number of units that can be added to a Cross-Listing.
    • Applies to the Unit fields in SCCLMAIN when creating or modifying a Cross-Listing.
    • The default value for this field is 2.
  • Maximum Number of Teaching Periods in a Cross-Listing. Used to limit the number of Teaching Periods that can be selected from which units can be chosen to add to a Cross-Listing.
    • Applies to the Teaching Period fields in SCCLMAIN when creating or modifying a Cross-Listing.
    • The default value for this field is 1.

Validations:

  • If the 'Auto Generate Cross-Listing Code' check box is deselected, then the 'Enable Cross-Listing Code Change after Loaded to LMS' check box must be selected.
