General rules are rules that have been created for particular subsystems of Callista. Users are able to view and edit various rule groups according to the access determined for their Security Role(s) in RULF3000. Currently there are five Rule Groups defined for Callista - ADM, COMPLETION, FINANCE, PROGRESS, SYSTEM and ENROLMENT. Rules within a group may be further assigned to subgroups. When a Rule Subgroup is selected the rules available for that sub group are displayed in the Rule block. Each rule in a subgroup, is edited in RULF2000 using the set of rule options and operators provided for the rule.

This form only allows querying and viewing of rules. By using the Add Rule or Edit Rule navigation buttons in the context of a particular rule, the rule text for each rule can be created or changed in RULF2000. It is also possible to insert a new rule by selecting the Add Unit button in the context of a specific Rule Group/Rule Subgroup. The insertion of new rules is only recommended for the ADM and FIN Rule Groups. Inserting new rules in other Rule Groups will have no effect on system functionality because they will not be linked to the events that need to trigger them.

Further information relating to a rule or its application may be viewed in the Comments block. This is accessed via the Comments navigation button.

Querying for rules can occur within the Rule Group block, or within the Rule block once a rule group has been selected as the context record in the Rule Group block.

The Rule Group block contains:

  • Rule Group
  • Rule Subgroup
  • Description

The Rule block contains:

  • Rule Description
  • Return Type
  • Rule Text

Buttons

    • Comments
    • Add Rule
    • Edit Rule

Note:

Users are not able to add new rule groups or delete existing ones.

Institutions need to create their new rules (similar to Tax rules) to define the Loan Fee percentage amount and the applicable Government Course Types.

Rule Block

Rules belonging to the group and subgroup selected in the Rule Group block will be displayed.

To query a rule in a selected subgroup, enter the desired search criteria in any field of the Rule block and then run the query.

To edit a rule, select the Edit Rule button (see RULF2000)

To add a rule, select the Add Rule button (see RULF2000).

To change the name or description of a rule select the Edit Rule button, make changes to the appropriate fields in RULF2000, and then save.

To delete a rule, select the rule and then click on the Edit Rule button to go to RULF2000. You can delete the record in this form if it has not been used.

To view a rule's comments, select the desired rule and press the Comments button. (A negative sign "-" in the comments button indicates that no comments have been recorded for the rule. A plus sign "+" indicates that comments exist for the rule).

To edit a rule’s comments, select the desired rule and then click on the Edit Rule navigation button to go to RULF2000. Click on the Comments navigation button, add or modify comments in the comments box as required, and then save. Caution should be exercised when editing rule comments shipped with Callista to avoid the deletion of important user help information.

Note:

A rule may be queried using a word or phrase in the Rule Text or Rule Comments field.
e.g. A rule known to contain the rule option UNIT_SET may be queried using %UNIT_SET% in the Rule text field.

The rule options and operators available for use when editing or creating a rule in RULF2000 are determined by the rule selected.

Rules that are renamed will maintain the same operators and functionality as the original.

The insertion of new rules in rule groups apart from ADM and FINANCE is not recommended. Such rules will not be linked to the events in the system which trigger them and will therefore never be called. e.g. A newly created enrolment message rule will never be called because it is not possible for the user to link it to the failure of its related rule.
