In the Course Structure and Planning subsystem, all study units are assigned to a discipline group defined by the institution in form CRSF2230, and these in turn are associated with government discipline groups (DEST element reference 336) in form CRSF2110.

In this form the government discipline groups are matched to contribution bands representing different HECS rates. For those students who are to be assessed for differential HECS, the fee assessment routine (FINJ3500, FINJ3001) uses this information to determine the appropriate HECS contribution band - and therefore rate - according to the discipline group of each unit a student is studying. The actual rates are associated with contribution bands in the form Define Fee Assessment Rates (FINF2853).

For each Government HECS contribution band (there are currently three - 1998) assign government discipline groups in accordance with DEST guidelines.

Start Date and End Date indicate the period during which a discipline group is effective in a contribution band. The start date defaults to the current date, and the end date can be left open.

Notes:

  • A discipline group can only be assigned to one open contribution band at any one time.
  • Contribution band records cannot be deleted once they have been associated with a fee assessment rate. Close them to prevent further use.
  • Amend the set of discipline groups in a band by adding new discipline group codes and/or by end dating those no longer associated with the band.
