The
terms used in the Research subsystem are described below. The relationships
between data, and concepts used in this subsystem, are explained in detail
in the Understanding Research section.
FIELD NAME |
DESCRIPTION |
is an indicator (against a Field of Study code entered in STAF1123) showing that this is a Research Fields, Courses and Disciplines code as specified by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. |
an indicator which describes whether the SEO is an Australian Bureau of Statistics classification code or a DEST code. |
specifies whether the panel member has requested anonymity. Setting the indicator (ticked) means that the panel member wishes to remain anonymous as far as the candidate is concerned. |
contains an entry for each change in a candidate's attendance percentage and attendance type. An entry will display a start and end date in addition to the percentage and type. |
describes the current attendance percentage of the candidate. The Attendance Percentage represents the total attendance of the research candidature and coursework unit attempts. Default percentages for each attendance type are recorded in the Maintain Attendance Types form, CRSF1170. The default values can be overridden. |
is the code of an institution-defined attendance type. An attendance type identifies whether a student is classified as part-time or full-time in the course, based on their study load in the reference year. Each attendance type must be mapped to a government attendance type (DEST element 330). |
is a text field for entry of citation information to be read during a graduation ceremony. |
is the date on which a research candidate commenced. The default date can be overridden. |

is the date on which a proposed panel member declined a the place on the thesis examining panel. |

is the date on which any embargo placed on the release of the thesis expires. |

Two classifications are represented within a single structure permitting selection from the Australian Bureau of Statistics classification, or the DEST classification. The field of study percentage must total 100% for a candidature. |
is the final result which has been allocated to the thesis, after all thesis examination processes are complete. The result code selected must be mapped to a system result of type final. See Thesis Result Codes. |
is set for certain system Thesis Result Codes, to indicate that the thesis result code is a final result. e.g. A 'PASS' is a final result, whereas a 'MINOR REV' result requires further work be done on the thesis. |
is an indicator which specifies whether the nominated title is the final title for the thesis, or a working title. Setting the checkbox (ticked) indicates the thesis title is final. |
is used to record any industries associated with the thesis / candidature. |
is the library catalogue number of the completed thesis. |
contains the date on which the research student's thesis was lodged in the library. |
is the latest date the thesis can be submitted. This system derived value can be overridden. This is a required field for a candidature. |
is the institution-defined status set for a milestone. e.g. Planned, Achieved. These statuses show the progress of a milestone Each institution-defined status is mapped to a system-defined milestone status (one of 'PLANNED', 'ACHIEVED', 'FAILED', 'RE-PLANNED'. |
is one of the set of institution defined milestone types used to describe milestones. Examples: Six Monthly Report, Literature Review Report, Project Selection, Conference Presentation, Draft Thesis Available, Miscellaneous. |
is the date on which the milestone was completed, whether successfully or unsuccessfully |
is the date on which the milestone is due to be completed. It may be calculated (from the offset days value) or entered. |
is the earliest date the thesis can be submitted. This system derived date can be overridden. This is a required field for a candidature. |
are of three types (Imminent, Reminder, Re-Reminder). These are attributes of institution-defined Milestone Types. The functionality for triggering Milestone reminders is under development. |
is a numeric value (representing a number of days) entered for a default milestone when defining course default milestones. This number is offset from the candidate's commencement date, in calculating the milestone due date.. |
is used to record the date on which a thesis panel member is paid. |
is selected for those thesis panel member types which can be the chairperson of an examining panel. It is selected for institution-defined types in RESF3184. |
is a set of user-defined types of members on a thesis panel. Examples: Chair, Ordinary, Reserve. |
is a text field for entry of a summary of the examiner's comments in support of their recommended result. |
is an attribute of the institution-defined thesis panel types. |
contains the recommended result submitted by the examiner |
is the date alias linked to the system effective end date of a research teaching calendar. The EFTD (equivalent full time days) for a research teaching period is determined by the number of days between the research effective start and end date aliases. |
is the date alias linked to the system effective start date of a research teaching calendar. Used to calculate the EFTD (equivalent full time days) for a research teaching period (i.e. the number of days between the research effective start and end date aliases). |
Research
Event Type |
classifies
any event influencing a research student’s attendance history.
describes the attendance percentage allocated to an attendance type, for research students. e.g. Full-time 100%, Part time 50%. |
represents the broad research topic of the candidature. More detailed descriptions are recorded against the thesis details. This is a required field for a candidature record. |
is an institution-defined code to identify scholarship types. These must be mapped either to an Organisation Unit or to a Person ID. |
This field describes any conditions which must be met to retain the scholarship. For example, maintenance of a minimum rate of progress may be a requirement of the scholarship. (No system functionality is implied.) |
This field describes the dollar value of the scholarship, in the case where it is a monetary scholarship. |
This field describes any other benefits which result from the scholarship. (No system functionality is implied.) |
describes textually the selection criteria for members of the examination panel, e.g. required qualifications, years of experience. Selection criteria can be recorded as an attribute of the institution-defined Thesis Panel Types. |
is used to record the Socio-Economic Objective applicable to the research candidature. A percentage value describes the percentage of the research effort applying to the objective. |
a code representing the government Socio-Economic Objective classification. Two classifications are represented within a single structure permitting selection from the Australian Bureau of Statistics classification, or the DEST classification. |

is the date, nominated by the candidate, on which he/she expects to submit the thesis for examination. |
is the date on which the thesis was submitted for examination. |

describes the percentage of the research load which is apportioned for funding purposes to the specified organisational unit. |
is an organisational unit for whom the supervisor is working when performing the supervision. |

is used to record the supervisor's profession. |
describes the unique Person ID of the replaced supervisor allowing creation and maintenance of a supervision history for the candidature. |
is the date a supervisor becomes effective for the candidature. |
is the percentage of supervision undertaken by this supervisor. This is recorded for the purposes of calculating the research load incurred by supervisors within an institution. |
is set where the supervisor type represents a principal supervisor. It is an attribute of Supervisor Type. |
describes the institution-defined supervisor type. Examples are Principal Supervisor, Associate Supervisor, External Supervisor. |

is the type of panel used for the thesis examination. An institution defines a set of panel types. |
describes the thesis result entered against the thesis exam. It is an outcome of the panel members having provided their recommended results. |

is an institution-defined thesis result code. Institution-defined codes must be mapped to system equivalents. The set of system values includes final results of 'FAIL'; 'FAIL-ALT'; 'NO RESULT'; and 'PASS', together with two incomplete results - 'MINOR-REV' and 'REV-MAJOR'. Only final results can be recorded against a thesis. Final and incomplete results can be recorded against a particular thesis examination. |
