Explanation

This form is used to record and maintain the institution defined set of disability type codes. These are comparable to Government Disability Codes (DEST element 386) specified in the Data Dictionary of the DEST manual, but provide for greater flexibility with the ability to subdivide government codes and to use more meaningful codes. Each institution defined disability type code must be mapped to a government disability code. The set of government disability codes are System defined values and cannot be maintained by the System's institutional administrator. Disability data is reported to DEST for each student. Disability type codes are used in the Maintain Person Disability Details form (ENRF3040) and the Person Statistics application in Callista Connect.

Example

The government disability codes represent yes/no answers to questions about specific disabilities. In this system, meaningful codes can be set up to describe each government disability type. Institution defined codes can then be mapped to the government codes. An institution defined disability type code is assigned to a student who advises that they have a disability of that type. The system converts the information about the disabilities a student has into yes/no answers regarding each disability type, for the purpose of DEST statistical reporting.

 

To create a new institution defined disability type using the Maintain Disability Types form:

  1. Enter Insert mode.
    2.
  2. Enter the new disability type code in the Disability Type field of a blank record.
    3.
  3. Enter the corresponding description for the disability type in the Description field.
    4.
  4. Select the System Disability Type from the list of values.
  5. Record an explanation for each disability type. Disability type explanations are used as part of the GOVT-STATS application in Callista Connect. The explanation is used as an answer to the disability type question in the application.
    6.
  6. Save.

Rules:

  • More than one active institution defined disability type can exist for each Sytem Disability Type.
  • Institution defined disability codes MUST be unique. 

 

 

  • Explanations should be recorded in the form of an answer for example:
    • I have a hearing impairment.
    • I have a medical impairment.
  • If an explanation is not recorded, the radio button appears for selection in the GOVT-STATS application with no explanation text next to it.

To modify an institution defined disability type using the Maintain Disability Types form:

  1. Find the record to be modified.
    2.
  2. Modify the record as required.
    3.
  3. Save.

Rules:

  • Once in use, an institution defined disability type should not be modified.

To delete an institution defined disability type using the Maintain Disability Types form:

  1. Find the record to be deleted.
    2.
  2. Locate the cursor in the record to be deleted.
  3. Delete record.
    4.
  4. Save.

Rules:

  • An institution defined disability type cannot be deleted if it has been used in a person disability record. It can be closed preventing any further use by selecting the Closed check box.
