Language Code |
Explanation |
This form is used to record and maintain the institution defined set of language codes. These are comparable to Government Language Codes (DEST element 348) specified in the Data Dictionary of the DEST manual, but provide for greater flexibility with the ability to subdivide Government codes and to use more meaningful codes. Each institution defined language code must be mapped to a Government language code. Language codes are used in the Maintain Person Statistical Details form (ENRF3060). |
Example |
The Government language code for Australian Indigenous Languages is 8000. This function permits the definition of an institution defined code which will map to 8000, for example, ABORIGINAL, or for the creation of numerous codes representing the different indigenous languages, all of which would map to 8000. |
