Unit Version

Explanation

The Unit Version block (context block) displays the current unit version record (context record) from the Maintain Basic Unit Details form. The displayed records in the Unit Categorisation block are the unit categories which have been assigned to the context record.

Example

When a unit is displayed in the Maintain Basic Unit Details form, the Other Unit Details button selected and the Unit Categorisation navigation button selected, then this form will display that same unit as the context record and any existing categories to which the unit belongs will be displayed.

To inquire on the unit levels of a unit version other than that initially displayed:

This block does not permit a query to be entered. It is necessary to:

  1. Return to the Maintain Basic Unit Details form.
  2. Select the unit version for which unit categories are required.
  3. Select the navigation button for Other Unit Details.
  4. Select the navigation button for Unit Categorisation.

Unit Categorisation

Explanation

This form is used to assign units to membership of unit categories. Unit categories are recorded and maintained using the Maintain Unit Categories form. Unit categories may be assigned to unit versions to group them according to like characteristics. The selection and naming of unit categories is a matter for individual institutions and users and their assignment to unit versions is optional. A unit version may be associated with any number of unit categories.

Unit categories can be used for specific purposes within the Statistics subsystem. Documentation of this in Statistics Subsystem Data Pre-requisites should be reviewed when setting up this subsystem.

Example

An institution may have a requirement that all students must complete a unit providing basic computer literacy. A category CL (or any other code) could be created, using the Maintain Unit Categories form which could be assigned to the displayed unit to indicate that it is part of the set of units resulting in basic computer literacy. Units in this category could then be used for progression purposes.

To assign a unit category to a unit version using the Maintain Unit Categorisations form:

  1. Enter Insert Mode.
  2. Select the unit category which you wish to associate with the unit version from the list of values (or enter a valid value) in the Unit Categorisation field of a blank record.
  3. Save.

Rules:

Unit categories cannot be altered if the unit status has been made INACTIVE.

To modify a unit category to unit version relationship using the Maintain Unit Categorisations form:

Rules:

  • The Unit category field is protected against update. It is not possible to modify existing records in this form. A unit category can, however, be deleted from a unit version.

To delete a unit category to unit version relationship using the Maintain Unit Categorisations form:

  1. Ensure that the correct unit version is displayed in the Unit Version block.
  2. Select the desired Unit Category record.
  3. Delete record.
  4. Save.

Rules:

  • Unit categories are completely user defined. They are used for grouping of unit versions to meet specific user requirements. Deletion of a unit category from a unit version should have no impact on ongoing system functionality or record management.
  • It may be necessary to delete a unit category from a unit version where users no longer wish the unit version to be grouped with other unit versions of the same category.

Changes within this form will have the following notable effects:
