Alternative Exit

Explanation

This block is used to record and maintain the set of alternative exits for the displayed course version. An alternative exit is represented by another course version recorded in the System. Students satisfying the course completion requirements of the alternative exit may be able to exit their enrolled course with the award for the alternative exit course version.

Example

A Bachelor of Commerce degree may have an alternative exit of a Diploma of Business Administration. This means that a student enrolled in a Bachelor of Commerce could exit that course with a Diploma of Business Administration if they satisfy the course completion requirements of the lesser award.

To create a new alternative exit using the Maintain Course Alternative Exits form:

  1. Enter Insert Mode.
  2. Enter the course code of the alternative exit course version in the Exit Course Code field of a blank record.
  3. Enter the version number or range of version numbers in the Exit Version Set field.
  4. Save.

Rules:

  • The Exit Course Code used must be a course code currently recorded in the System.
  • The Exit Version Set is the set of version numbers, identifying which versions of the course specified by the exit course code are valid as alternative exits.
  • Alternative exits cannot be altered, inserted or deleted once the exit versions Course Status has been made INACTIVE.

To delete an alternative exit using the Maintain Course Alternative Exits form:

  1. Find the record to be deleted.
  2. Locate the cursor in the record to be deleted.
  3. Delete record.
  4. Save.

To modify an alternative exit using the Maintain Course Alternative Exits form:

  1. Find the record to be modified.
  2. Modify the exit version set as required.
  3. Save.

Rules:

  • The Exit Course Code field is protected against modification. An incorrectly entered course code can be deleted and the correct code entered.

Changes within this form will have the following notable effects:

  • Adding an alternative exit indicates that students may exit their enrolled course version by taking the award for the alternative exit course.
  • Deleting an alternative exit indicates that the alternative exit is no longer available for the context course version.
