To
create a new field of study or research code using the Maintain Fields
of Study form:

- Enter Insert Mode.
- Enter the desired name (or code) of the field
of study or research code in the Field of Study field of a blank record.
- Enter a meaningful description for the field of study/research code in the Description
field.
- Select the appropriate Govt Field of
Study/Research Code from
the list of values (or key a valid value).
- Save.

Rules:
- New institution-defined Field of
Study codes should be mapped to Govt Field of Education codes.
- A field of study/research code cannot
be mapped to a CLOSED Government field of study/research code.
- Government
Field of Eductaion value must be 4 digits in length.

To
delete a field of study or research code using the Maintain Fields of
Study form:
|
- Find the record to be deleted.
- Locate the cursor in the record to be deleted.
- Delete record.
- Save.
|
Rules:
- If a field of study or research code
has been used in the definition of a course, it cannot be deleted.
It can be closed, preventing any further use, by selecting the Closed
check box.
- A CLOSED field of study/research
code cannot be re-opened if the Government code to which it is mapped
is CLOSED.

To
modify a field of study or research code using the Maintain Fields of
Study form:
|
- Find the record to be modified.
- Modify the record as required.
- Save.
|
Rules:
- If a field of study/research code
has been used in the definition of a course, only the description
can be modified. This is not recommended unless the change in description
is minor and does not affect the meaning of the description. A new
field of study/research code should normally be created.
- A field of study/research code can
be closed, preventing any further use, by selecting the Closed check
box.
