The Socio-Economic Objective (SEO) Classification allows research to be classified according to the social and economic objectives of the research. Government reporting requirements include the classification of research, using Government SEO Classifications.

Where an institution maintains its own SEO Classifications, the linking of the institution-defined classifications to Government SEO Classifications ensures accurate reporting to government.

Where an institution does not require the creation of its own SEO Classifications, the classifications entered using this form, should reflect the Government SEO Classifications. Government defined SEO Classifications are maintained using the form RESF31C0.

These SEO classifications are recorded against a Candidature in the Research Candidature Details form (RESF3211).

The Socio-Economic Objective Classifications block contains:

• SEO Classification Code
• Description
• GOVT SEO Class Code
• ABS SEO check box
• Closed check box

Rules/Notes:

This form is used to record the institution-defined SEO Classifications and link them to the Government SEO Classifications.

All SEO Classifications must be unique. Each of these institution-defined classifications must be mapped to a Government SEO Classification (maintained using RESF31C0).

More than one institution-defined SEO Classification can be mapped to a single Government SEO Classification. A warning will display, indicating that the Government SEO Classification already has a linked institution classification.

The ABS indicator cannot be set; it is an attribute of the selected Government SEO Classification (maintained in form RESF31C0.).

Rules/Notes:

It is recommended that mapping between institution and government defined SEO Classification be a one-to-one relationship.

An SEO Classification cannot be deleted if it has been used in a Candidature record.

Select the Closed indicator to prevent future use of an SEO Classification.
