This form is used to record and maintain the set of Government Student Status Codes (element 490). These codes identify the student status for a Student Unit Attempt for the purpose of reporting to the Government. The Student Status indicates whether the student is required to make a student contribution, pay Tuition Fees or is exempt from payment or contribution. Student Status Codes also indicate, where applicable, the type of Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) loan scheme assistance for each Unit Attempt and whether payment is up front or deferred. Each Government Student Status is mapped to a System Student Status Type which is used to determine the method of calculating HELP liabilities. Institution defined Student Status codes are mapped to Government Student Status. The institution defined values are recorded for students at Enrolment. Some Government Student Status Codes allow a discount for up-front and partial payments under certain conditions. In such cases, the ‘Allow Discount’ check box must be selected in this form. Currently (2005) these options are:
This form also displays the pre 2005 Government Liability Status (HECS Options) codes. Some example Government
Student Status codes and the System Student Status Types to which they

Rules/Notes: Capture TFN Information check box. Selecting this check box ensures that the Student's Tax File Number is recorded when a Government Student Status of 230 is specified. Capture CHESSN’ Information check box is used in the Process Student Loan Scheme function to determine if a CHESSN is required before a loan amount or Student Status(SS) snapshot is recorded for a student. This check box is also used in the creation of blank CHESSN records when recording and maintaining a SS in the function ‘Record Student Status’ (ENRF3110). Selecting the Commonwealth Assisted check box means a student is included in a Commonwealth Assisted System Submission Type when running statistics jobs such as STAJ0110, and that Commonwealth Assessment notices will be produced for a student when their student status is 250, 260, 261 or 262. |

Rules/Notes: Currently (2005) Government Student Statuses 201 and 202 require the Allow Discount check box to be selected. This allows discounts to be taken into account in calculating expected payments in the Student Finance System. Discount details are set up in the Maintain Payment Schedule, FINF2860. For each student that requires a CHESSN, select the Capture CHESSN Information check box. |
