Background Information

Universities are required to record Govt ABS Classifications as part of students' Research Candidature details in RESF3211.
In STAF1139, Government ABS Classifications are recorded and linked to ABS Classification Categories. In STAF113A, institution-defined ABS Classification Codes are mapped to the Government ABS Classifications, and will be available for selection in RESF3211.

The ABS Classification Category block contains:

• Classification Category
• Description
• Closed check box

Rules/Notes:

To create a new ABS Classification Category :

• Enter Insert Mode
• Enter values for the new Classification Category.
• Enter a meaningful description.
• Save

Rules/Notes:

This will be displayed along with the Category in the Classification Category LOV in STAF1139.

To delete an ABS Classification Category record:

• Find the record to be deleted
• Locate the cursor in the record to be deleted
• Delete record
• Save

Rules/Notes:

If the ABS Classification Category has been used in a Government ABS Classification record in STAF1139, it cannot be deleted. It can be closed, preventing any further use, by selecting the Closed check box.

To modify an ABS Classification Category:

• Find the record to be modified
• Modify the record as required
• Save

Rules/Notes:

An ABS Classification Category should only be modified where the change is to correct an incorrectly entered description. A new ABS Classification Category should be created, if needed.

An ABS Classification Category can be closed, preventing any further use, by selecting the Closed check box.
