SSFNINTR2 - Notices Glossary

To understand Self Serve Notices, it is necessary to understand the following key terms.

Term Explanation
Closed check box

The Closed Check boxes in (Maintain Self Serve Notice Delivery Condition - SSFF5010) and (Maintain Self Serve Notice Delivery Location - SSFF5020) are selected when the user no longer wants the information applied to NEW notices. Notices with this condition applied BEFORE the Closed check box was selected will continue to have the information displayed

Display Location Code

A list of locations that the notice may be displayed in Connect. Any number of locations may be defined to a notice, as a notice may need to appear in more than one location. Display Location codes are institution defined. Defined in Maintain Self Serve Notice Display Location (SSFF5020)and displayed as an LOV field in Maintain Self Serve Notices (SSFF5000)

Display Once The Display Once check box, when selected, means that the notice is only displayed once. As soon as the student see it, it is not displayed anymore. If the user selects the 'Display Once' check box, the 'Log Notice' check box MUST be also selected. It cannot be selected by itself. The check box is found in Maintain Self Serve Notices (SSFF5000)
Display Order The Display Order is an institution defined numbering system that determines in what order notices are displayed. For an example, number '1' means the notice is displayed first, number '2' second, and so on. Defined in Maintain Self Serve Notices (SSFF5000)
Dynamic Notice Text

Notice text that requires some form of database access, via an SQL statement. The SQL statement may perform queries or execute functions as determined by the administrator. Select the Dynamic Notice Text Tab in Maintain Self Serve Notices (SSFF5000)

Embedded As Embedded the Notice will appear in specific places, such as 'Personal Details' on the main Student Connect page. For example, the notice could appear under a Student's 'Personal Profile'. The institution defines the locations that the notice can be embedded into. Once a Display Location is selected in Maintain Self Serve Notices (SSFF5000), it becomes embedded text
Log Notice If this check box is selected in Maintain Self Serve Notices (SSFF5000), then when a notice is viewed within connect, a log record is created. The Notice logged records can be viewed in Inquire On Self Serve Notice Log (SSFF5100)
Notice A Notice, displayed in Student connect, is a mechanism for delivering general news to students
Notice Delivery Condition Code Defined by an institution, a code is unique so that it can be used in multiple notices. Defined in Maintain Self Serve Notice Delivery Condition (SSFF5010) and displayed as an LOV field in Maintain Self Serve Notices (SSFF5000)
Start & End Dates Notices are only available during the Start and End Dates. Set in Maintain Self Serve Notices (SSFF5000)
Static Notice Text Static Text that has no database value. Static text cannot have Dynamic text within it. Select the Static Notice Text Tab in Maintain Self Serve Notices (SSFF5000)
Stand Alone As a stand alone (direct link) - This means Notices only appears in the 'Notice' section of Connect. If only stand alone notices were sent, the list would appear here for the student to view. If no Display Location is selected in Maintain Self Serve Notices (SSFF5000), the text is deemed to be Stand Alone (direct link)
System Notice Status Available statuses of ACTIVE PLANNED and INACTIVE. Only ACTIVE Notices are displayed. Defined in Maintain Self Serve Notices (SSFF5000)
