Run Log block

The majority of executable jobs generate information about whether or not they have run successfully. This information is displayed in Run Logs in this form. The System may also generate logs directly, among these a record of each time a batch queue status alters. The Run Log is particularly useful for diagnostic purposes when a job fails, and often includes details of a more technical nature intended primarily to aid specialist IT staff. Jobs returning extensive information have multiple Log Records.

The form displays:

• A list of Log Records with identifying information about the job or batch queue to which the Log Record belongs.
• A log entry corresponding to the record selected in the list of Log Records.

A context request job is carried from the previous form, Maintain Request Job Run (JBSF5300), with its first record selected and log entry displayed automatically. The form can also be used to query all, or a subset, of job runs with records still existing in the System.

Log Entry Field

Entries for typical Log Records might report on one or more of the following items: job execution, outputs, parameters, conditions under which a job failed, an aborted job, a job that has been restarted or the changed status of a batch queue.

The entire log entry can be seen by using the scroll bar or the Edit Field facility.

This form is navigated to from JBSF5300, via the Run Log buttom (bottom right of block).

Job CALR0620 in request 35, selected in the previous form, has two Log Records displayed, with logged information from the first record shown in the Log Entry field below. To see the log entry for the second record, it is necessary to select that record.

For example, some typical log entries are:

Entry about output:

Output number: 1, Destination number: 1, Filename: CALR0620.lst successfully sent to the printer

Entry about a restartable job:

Start up check: Job status altered from RUNNING to SCHEDULED because it is restartable

Entry about a batch queue:

Batch queue status set to INACTIVE by the automated process.

The Run Log block contains:

• Queue ID
• Entry Date & Time
• Request Number
• Job Name
• Scheduled Date and Time
• Job Num
• Log Entry

To inquire on Log Records for jobs other than the context job, using the Inquire On Run Log form:

In Query mode:

• Enter query details in the appropriate fields.
• Execute the query.
• If more than one record is returned, select the required record to see its log entry.
