GRDF1800 - Maintain Honours Levels

Purpose

To allow the creation and maintenance of institution defined Honours Levels and other similar levels of achievement

SubSystem

Graduation

Normally Run By Administration Specialist
Anticipated Frequency As required
Structure  Block Honours Levels

The form is used to record

  • Institution codes equating to Government Codes (DIISRTE element 352) for Bachelor Honours Awards. For example, for Government Honours Level code 5 (LEVEL IIB BACHELOR HONOURS AWARD GRANTED) the institution might choose to assign the code 'H2B'
  • Other codes signifying levels of achievement for an award. For example, degrees awarded 'with merit' or 'with distinction', typically used where a course does not have an Honours Level.

In the Graduation Subsystem, these codes are recorded against Graduand Records in the form GRDF4200 (Maintain Graduand Details). In the Admissions Subsystem, they are recorded against an applicant's prior tertiary education record in the form ADMF32B0 (Record Prior Tertiary Education).

Ranking

Each Honours Level recorded in this form must be given a Rank, for the following reason:–

The job GRDJ5200 allocates sequence numbers to Graduands. These numbers determine the order in which Graduands will be presented with their awards at the graduation ceremony.

There is the option in this job to Group Honours Graduands separately. Where this option is taken, the job sequences Honours Graduates within the group according to the Ranks assigned in this form. For example, Graduands receiving first class Honours may be Ranked before those with second class Honours, and they in turn will come before those with third class Honours.

The Honours Levels block contains:

  • Honours Level
  • Description
  • Government Honours Level
  • Rank
  • Closed check box

Rules/Notes:

For Bachelor Honours Award Levels:

  • Map codes chosen by the institution to Government Honours Level codes other than 0 (zero), together with their Descriptions.

For other levels:

  • Map institution defined levels to the Government Honours Level code 0 (zero), and give a Description.

A Rank must be assigned to all levels recorded here. (See 'Ranking' above, and the documentation of job GRDJ5200 for more details.)

Rules/Notes:

More than one Honours Level can be mapped to the same Government Honours Level.

Once used to specify the Honours Level of a Graduand, an Honours Level record cannot be deleted. Selecting its Closed check box prevents any further use.

When Ranks are used in GRDJ5200, it is possible to order from high to low, or the reverse. Rank 1 = High.

Note that there is currently no provision within the System to determine which Courses Award Honours, or which Honours Levels may be used for specific courses.
