Overview

This Help page provides definitions of elements used in ADF pages, including buttons and icons.

An ADF page can contain a number of different elements depending on the Page Type and functionality requirements. The image below shows some of the different elements that can exist on a page.

Page Elements

 

Element: Description:
Access Key A keyboard shortcut assigned to Action links, buttons and elements.

Invoked by <Alt>+<keyboard key> and represented by an underlined character in the element name.
Action Link Reflects and performs an action. Usually visually represented by an icon and label. Often appears in the toolbar of a page.
Button An action visually represented by a button.

Disabled buttons may show a tooltip describing why the button is disabled.
Checkbox Commonly used to select one or more items in a list. Visually represented by:

a tick to indicate an item is selected, or to represent the word 'yes'.

the word 'No' or an empty checkbox to indicate the item is deselected/not checked.

Context Area  
Drag and Drop  
Drop-Down Selector A hard-coded List of Values for a field represented by an open arrow-head. Also referrred to as a Selector.

Clicking on the arrow-head displays a drop-down list of values from which the user can select a value.

The drop-down selector differs to an LOV selector, in that it is a hard-coded list of values and not sourced from another SMS page or form.

Input Field A field used for data entry.
Required fields (= mandatory field)
Label  
Lamp Highlighted message used to notify the user about the state of the context record. Shown as near as possible to the context element or area. Types of Lamps include: Warning messages, Information messages and Progress messages.

Also referred to as a 'Notification Inline Message'.
Landing Page Used for creating a central location from where users can access all pages related to a specific subject area within the system.

The page contains a number of Task Blocks.
List A table containing a list of records (i.e. rows of records). A List contains a Toolbar located at the top of the table, a Header row, a body of records, and a Selection column. Only 10 rows are visible at any point in time. Vertical and horizontal scrolling is used to view all records in the List.

The following actions can be performed:

- Sort records in a column,
- Move (via drag and drop) a column to a different location in the table
- Resize a column make wider or narrower, as required.
- Freeze one or more columns or rows, for example, you might want to do this when scrolling horizontally or vertically to view multiple rows/columns.
- Delete or remove (i.e. hide) columns however, Primary columns cannot be hidden.
- Edit records directly in the table (only if the List is an 'editable list' ).
- Add a new record to the list via the New icon.

Simple List.
List of Values - Selector A List of Values (LOV) for a field represented by a filled-in arrow-head.

Clicking on the arrow-head displays a drop-down list of values that is sourced from another SMS page or form.

The LOV selector differs to the Drop-Down selector, in that the values are sourced from another SMS page or form and are not a hard-coded list of values.
Menu A list of references to pages. Used to navigate to a page.

Items within the menu are expandible and collapsible.

Can be sorted in any order as required by the institution.

A Menu Search field is provided at the top of each page that can be used to find and display a page instead of using the Menu.
The Menu Search items are restricted by User Security privileges. i.e. some pages may not be available depending on your security privileges.

The Hint Text inside Menu Search is configurable using the form GENF4720.

Section An area of a page that contains a set of related Elements.

Elements are grouped logically or separated into visually distinguishable groups.

Task Block A visual area on a page that represents a task or provides a link to a page. Task blocks are used in Landing Pages and Task Popups.
Task Popup A popup window that displays a number of tasks related to a specific action.

For example, when you click on the link 'Propose New Unit', a Task Popup window is displayed containing links to 'Update Existing Proposal' and 'Create New Proposal from Scratch'. The user clicks on the required task.
Text Area An area used for entering text. In some cases Rick Text Editor (if it is installed) may be used for adding and formatting text.

Can choose to show changes for a specific date or changes made to certain element on the page.

Page Types

An ADF page is made up of the following main areas: Header, Body and Footer (see the definitions in the above table for more information).

The Header area...

The Page Body area of the page is the main working area of the page where data is displayed and the user performs their tasks. Different elements appear depending on whether the user is in View or Edit mode. Scrolling appears in the Body area if the content does not fit the page, so that the user can scroll down to view or interact with data on the rest of the page.

The Footer area of the page contains navigation buttons and footnotes.

The layout of each page varies according to the Page Type (i.e. Create, Edit, or View (List) page).
