The default (or System-wide) configuration of the Progression Subsystem can be overridden to meet the needs of a particular Organisational Unit. This form is used to create and maintain configuration parameters for a specified Organisational Unit.

The configuration defined for an Organisational Unit takes precedence over System-wide settings (PRGF2100), in the application of Progression Rules, for Student Course Attempts within that Organisational Unit. A 'child' Course Version configuration (PRGF2200) overrides the Organisational Unit configuration settings established using this form. The multi-level configuration of progression is described fully in the Configuration topic of Specialist Functions.

In the Progression Subsystem, there are critical dates that must be specified, to establish the Progression Application Cycle. To configure Progression for an Organisational Unit, each of these critical dates must have a Date Alias assigned. Those selected could be Date Aliases defined specifically for the Organisational Unit or Date Aliases that have been defined and used at other Progression Configuration Levels. This form allows the recording of these Date Aliases against the System Date Names. (The definition of Date Aliases and Date Alias Instances is done in the Calendar Subsystem and described in Configuration - Specialist Functions).

The Progression Calendar Types used by the Organisational Unit are specified in the overlay screen. Progression Rules within a Calendar are only evaluated for Student Course Attempts under this Organisational Unit, if this configuration specifies that a Progression Calendar Type is a recognised Progression Period in this Organisational Unit.

Other parameters controlling the application of Progression Rules and the options available after failure of a Progression Rule are also established, for the Organisational Unit, in this form.

Rules/Notes:

Organisational Unit Block:

Query to retrieve the required Organisational Unit in this block.

Rules/Notes:

Only ACTIVE Organisational Unit can be configured.

System Organisational Unit Progression Configuration Block:

A Date Alias must be selected for each of the four Organisational Unit Date parameters - Apply Start / Apply End / End Benefit / End Penalty Date Alias.

Select the required Outcome Check Type. The Check Type is used when Progression Rules are applied, to determine if a Student Course Attempt is ready to be evaluated. For example if it is set to FINALISED, a Student Course Attempt can only be evaluated when all units being considered have a finalised result recorded.

Show Cause & Appeal Parameters:

Setting the Show Cause or Appeal check boxes is optional. The relevant one should be selected, where either a Show Cause and/or Appeal period is to be available for students within the Organisational Unit.

The Show Cause/Appeal Cut Off Date Alias specifies the Date by which any Show Cause / Appeal Period must end.

The Apply Outcome Before check box define whether outcomes can be applied to a Student Course Attempt before the Show Cause / Appeal Period is completed.

Neither check box is set by default. Set the relevant check box where outcomes are to be applied before the Show Cause or Appeal Period.

The Show Cause / Appeal Length can be specified in the Progression Calendars overlay screen.

Rules/Notes:

To configure progression at an Organisational Unit level, all configuration parameters must be specified.

To delete an Org Unit Progression Configuration all links to Progression Calendars should be deleted first.

Parameters and Calendar relationships can be modified.

Date Aliases for use in this form are created in CALF0420.

Show Cause and Appeal parameters can only be specified if the Show Cause or Appeal check box is selected.

Show Cause / Appeal Cut Off Date Alias must be specified if the Show Cause / Appeal check box is set.

Show Cause and Appeal check boxes can only be set at this level if they have been set at the System level (in PRGF2100).

Typical configuration assumes the Apply Outcome Before Show Cause is not set and the Apply Outcome Before Appeal is set. (This is reflected in the availability of a Progression Status of SHOWCAUSE).

Other Parameters:

The Count Suspension / Exclusion In Time check boxes should be set where any suspension or exclusion period (outcomes resulting from failure of a Progression Rule) is to be included in the calculation of elapsed time. (Evaluating course completion may include measurement of the time taken by a student to complete a course. These parameters will control the inclusion/exclusion of time on suspension or exclusion, in these calculations, when planned future functionality allows maximum time options in constructing completion rules).

Calculate WAM / GPA check boxes:

Setting these check boxes allows the calculation, storage and display (on PRGF6600, ENRF3000 and INQF1200) of the Weighted Average Mark and/or Grade Point Average value, for all Student Course Attempts within this Organisational Unit.

The calculation of these values is described in a Special Topic.

Rules/Notes:

Where the Calculate WAM / GPA check box is not set, it does not override the calculation of a WAM / GPA value as part of the evaluation of a Progression Rule, for a student. This evaluation returns a 'passed or failed the rule' result (and the message displayed when a rule is failed displays the calculated GPA/WAM value). The actual WAM / GPA value is only stored if the check box is set.
Where the check box is set, a student's current WAM / GPA value can also be calculated at any time (and displayed where screens are able to display the value).

Progression Calendars Overlay:

The set of progression calendars which are to apply at the Organisational Unit level, are specified in this overlay screen.

Select or enter the Progression Calendar Type and enter a Stream Number for this Calendar. A Stream Number represents a logical sequence of Progression Periods and is used in the derivation of Progression Outcome Expiry Dates. For example Progression Calendars to represent Semesters are logically a Progression Sequence, so would be given the same Stream Number. A Calendar Type representing a yearlong Progression Period would require a different Stream Number, as it is logically a different sequence of Progression Periods.

Enter the Show Cause and Appeal Length values if required. The numeric value entered represents a number of days. (The actual End Date of a show cause or Appeal Period is derived using this value and the Cut-off Date Alias Instance, when rules are applied and an outcome results.) These values can be different from those used for the same Calendar Type at the System (or Course Version) configuration level.

Rules/Notes:

Calendar Types for use in this form are created in CALF0220.

Only Calendar Types with a Calendar Category of PROGRESS can be entered.

A Stream Number must be entered against each Calendar Type.

The same Stream Number (allocated to a specific Calendar Type at any other level in the configuration) must be allocated to that Calendar Type at every level. For example a Semester 1 Progression Calendar may have been allocated Stream Number 1 when that Calendar was configured at System level (in PRGF2100). When configuring that same Calendar for an Organisational Unit, it must also have a Stream Number of 1.

If a Show Cause or Appeal Length value is not entered (where allowed as specified by the setting of the Show Cause / Appeal check boxes), a warning displays. The System Show Cause / Appeal Length values (for the context Calendar) are then used by default, to calculate the Show Cause / Appeal End Dates.
