This form is used to record and maintain the set of Course Types determined by the institution. These are comparable to Government Course Types but provide for greater flexibility by permitting classification at a more detailed level and the use of Course Type names specific to individual institutions. Each institution defined Course Type must be mapped to a Government Course Type. More than one institution defined Course Type can be mapped to the same Government Course Type. For example, Government Course Type 511 - could be divided into 511a and 511b. Also an institution may have a local name for Government Course Type 990 which could be made available for course definition instead of the Government Course Type code.

The Course Type block contains:
Rules/Notes:
The Applicant Portal Non-Award Course check box. This check box is used to identify the courses that will be returned in the Non-Award course search in Applicant Portal. |
To create a new Course Type using the Maintain Course Types form:
Rules/Notes: There should be at least one institution defined Course Type created to correspond to each Government Course Type.
To delete a Course Type using the Maintain Course Types form:
Rules/Notes: If a Course Type has been used in the definition of a course, it cannot be deleted. It can be closed, preventing any further use, by selecting the Closed check box. |
To modify a Course Type using the Maintain Course Types form:
Rules/Notes: If a Course Type has been used in the definition of a course, only the description can be modified. This is not recommended unless the change in description is minor and does not affect the meaning of the Course Type. A new Course Type should normally be created. A Course Type can be closed, preventing any further use, by selecting the Closed check box. |
