Charles Darwin University supports the rights of students to participate on an equitable basis in all aspects of University life.
What are inherent requirements?
Inherent requirements are the abilities, knowledge, and standards of conduct and performance that are essential for a student to achieve the learning outcomes of a course or unit. These may include compulsory standards set by professional registration, or accreditation bodies.
How does this affect you?
The capacities outlined in the inherent requirements reflect the necessary skills and abilities required by a student to successfully complete the academic requirements of an award course.
Inherent requirements are specific to a particular course but are not course entry requirements. To enable informed decision making about courses of study, prospective and current students should reflect carefully on the course inherent requirements.
Where possible, CDU will make reasonable adjustments to teaching and learning, assessment, professional experiences, course related work experience and other course activities to enable participation by students with disability, carer/assistant responsibilities, and religious or cultural obligations. However, reasonable adjustments cannot fundamentally change, replace, or override the inherent requirements, or compromise the academic integrity of an academic program.
Prospective and current students who are concerned about their capacities in relation to inherent requirements are strongly encouraged to contact the CDU Access and Inclusion team to discuss possible adjustments or alternative courses.
