Government Institution Code

Explanation
The government allocates a unique code to each tertiary institution in Australia. These codes are currently listed in an Appendix to the Technical Documentation for the Higher Education Student Collection. The government code for each institution must be created and maintained within the System.
Example

To create a new government institution code record using the Maintain Government Institution Code form:
  1. Enter Insert mode.
  2. Enter the new government code in the Govt Institution Code field of a blank record.
  3. Enter the institution name in the Description field.
  4. Save.
To modify a government institution code record using the Maintain Government Institution Code form:
  1. Find the record to be modified.
  2. Modify the record as required.
  3. Save.
Rules:
  • If a government institution code has been assigned to an institution or used elsewhere in the System, its description should only be modified where the change is to correct an incorrectly entered description. A new government institution code should normally be created, in accordance with government department specifications.
  • A government institution code can be closed, preventing any further use, by selecting the Closed check box.
To delete a government institution code record using the Maintain Government Institution Code form:
  1. Find the record to be deleted.
  2. Locate the cursor in the record to be deleted.
  3. Delete record.
  4. Save.
Rules:
  • If a government institution code has been assigned to an institution or used elsewhere in the System, it cannot be deleted. It can be closed, preventing any further use, by selecting the Closed check box.
