Organisational Type

Explanation
Institutions can create and define any number of organisational types enabling functionality in other subsystems, as well as future inquiry, reporting and grouping of organisational units by type. An organisational type is a means of classifying organisational units into business categories.
Example
Academic and administrative are possible examples of organisational types.

To create a new organisational type using the Maintain Organisational Type form:
  1. Enter Insert mode.
  2. Enter the desired name of the organisational type in the Organisational Type field of a blank record.
  3. Enter a meaningful description for the organisational type in the description field.
  4. Save.
To modify an organisational type using the Maintain Organisational Type form:
  1. Find the record to be modified.
  2. Modify the record as required.
  3. Save.
Rules:
  • If an organisational type has been used in the definition of an organisational unit, only the description can be modified. This is not recommended unless the change in description is minor and does not alter the meaning. A new organisational type should normally be created.
  • An organisational type can be closed, preventing any further use, by selecting the Closed check box.
To delete an organisational type using the Maintain Organisational Type form:
  1. Find the record to be deleted.
  2. Locate the cursor in the record to be deleted.
  3. Delete record.
  4. Save.
Rules:
  • If an organisational type has been used to define an organisational unit, it cannot be deleted. It can be closed, preventing any further use, by selecting the Closed check box.

Changes within this form will have the following notable effects:
  • Adding an organisational type permits its use for the definition of organisational units.
