Explanation

It is expected that the data in this form will be set up and maintained by information technology staff.

The form is used to record and maintain a list of those printers on the institution's network which should be available to the Job Control and Scheduling facility. These printers may be chosen as a destination for reports and other printed output from jobs run within the system.

To record a printer for use by the Job Control and Scheduling facility, using the Maintain Printers form:

In Insert mode:

  1. Enter the name or code of the required network printer in the Printer field of a blank record.
  2. Enter a meaningful description in the Description field.
  3. Select the location of the printer from the list of values (or key in a valid value) in the Location Code field.
  4. Optionally, enter the spooler command and spooler option in the Spooler and Spooler Option fields.
  5. Save.

Rules:

  • Only open locations are normally shown in the list of values. However, when a closed location has just been keyed in, its details are displayed in the LOV for information.
  • Entries in the Spooler and Spooler Option fields are used by the system when building operating commands.

To modify a printer record using the Maintain Printers form:

  1. Find the record to be modified.
  2. Modify the record as required.
  3. Save.

Rules:

  • Description, Location Code, Spooler and Spooler Option fields can be modified.

To delete a printer record using the Maintain Printers form:

  1. Find the record to be deleted.
  2. Locate the cursor in the record to be deleted.
  3. Delete record.
  4. Save.

Rules:

  • If a printer is specified in a job, a job request or as a person's default printer, its record cannot be deleted.
  • Taking a printer temporarily off-line is handled outside the Callista system.
