About Control.doc

Control.doc is the name of a file, containing Microsoft Visual Basic programming, which performs the merging of Callista data into Microsoft Word documents. This file is used by correspondence creation processes throughout Callista. Examples are Admission letter production and production of academic transcripts.

These processes rely on the existence of templates which specify the layout of the correspondence and the Callista data elements to be included in them.

For release 1.4.2 (and later releases) of Callista, it is possible to specify the physical location of templates and the location to which merged files are saved. This allows for central design and management of templates and central storage of merged files. For example, the set of templates can be maintained on a file server accessible by all authorised staff. Updating a template makes the change immediately available to all those staff. It also allows individual workgroups to manage their own templates and output destinations by configuring control.doc to their specific situation..

Setting the Template and Output File Locations

Template and Output file locations for system generated correspondence are maintained in the control.doc file. Control.doc must be copied to (or exist in) the client's C:\tmp directory.
