Date Alias Instance

Explanation

This form is accessed via the date alias icon in a calling form, and appears as a pop-up window overlaying the form which calls it. Although the form itself is inquiry only, it can be used either to

  • display details of a date alias instance used in the calling form, or
  • supply a selected date alias instance to the calling form.

When used for the latter purpose, the form returns current and future instances of date aliases when queried. Naming a date alias (or part thereof) and/or a calendar type (or part thereof) enables a subset of date alias instances to be accessed.

Example

A user enters the teaching calendar type YR-LONG in the Calendar Type field, and executes the query. All date aliases with instances falling on or after the current date which are associated with any instance of YR-LONG are returned and can be viewed, record by record.

To limit the search further, a particular instance of YR-LONG could have been selected from the list of values, and CEN% entered in the Date Alias field. The system would return any dates for CENSUS (in this case, the only date alias matching the search criterion) in that instance of YR-LONG.

To inquire on instances of a date alias, using the Inquire on Date Alias Instance form:

In Query mode:

  1. Optionally, enter search criteria in the Date Alias field or select a date alias from the list of values.
  2. Optionally, enter search criterion in the Calendar Type field or select a calendar instance from the list of values.
  3. Execute the query.
  4. Select OK to return to the main form and insert the selected date alias instance record there. (Using the Cancel button returns without inserting a record.)

Rules:

  • Search criteria can be either the full name, or part of the name + wild card character %.
  • The Closed indicator determines if a date alias or calendar instance is closed for use. This indicator is for information only.
  • The Start Date and End Date fields show which instance of the calendar type is displayed.
