Purpose

To allow users to configure colours for visual attributes that change the display of forms for their user logon

General

The visual attributes that can be configured are Text, Canvas, Button, Scroll Bar and Current Record.

A selected colour palette is provided, however, users can use other colours by directly entering the RGB code of the desired colour.

A lamp ‘Form Colours have not been defined for this user’ displays when no record exists for the user.

Users set the colour codes for a form element by clicking on the field name or radio button and then clicking on the desired field in the palette. Or alternatively, by typing the RGB value for the colour directly into the field. For example, 'R192G192B192'.

If a form colour record exists for the user then that colour scheme will be displayed for that user.
Where no form colour record exists for the user but an INSTITUTION_LEVEL_COLOUR’ record exists, then that colour scheme is displayed for the user.
If no form colour record is defined for the user or INSTITUTION_LEVEL_COLOUR’  then the traditional ‘grey’ colour scheme is displayed for the user.

This form is accessed from the main menu.

The Form Colour block contains:

• Oracle Username (and Radio Button)
• Canvas Colour (and Radio Button)
• Button Colour (and Radio Button)
• Scroll Bar Colour (and Radio Button)
• Lamp Colour (and Radio Button)
• Current Record Colour (and Radio Button)

Rules/Notes:

Validations include:

• All colours must be defined to configure user custom form colours.
• Colour fields must use the correct RGB code format:
  • The code contains RGB in correct order
  • The code contains only one of each 'R' 'G' and 'B'
  • Each RGB number component contains only numbers
  • Each RGB number component is no greater than 255

Colour Palette

The colour palette provided consists of 21 colours representing Callista’s Brand colour Palette.

When the user clicks on a colour in the palette, the RGB number of the colour is populated in the colour field associated with the active radio button. The field sample field associated with the active radio button displays the selected colour.

Record Exists Lamp

Where a record does not exist in the form_colour table for the user, the lamp will display: ‘Form Colours have not been defined for this User’

Rules/Notes:

The university can define a colour profile to be used system wide by inserting a record with a username 'INSTITUTION_LEVEL_COLOUR' into the table. This will need to be inserted manually into the table it cannot be done via the form'. The user with the Username ‘INSTITUTION_LEVEL_COLOUR’ is defining the colours applying to all users rather than their own.

Some operating systems may not support the full range of colours, in which case, some colours in the colour palette will be duplicated.

Note: Consider using colours that are web safe, conform to institution colours or colours that are selected from a Colour Schemer. Not following these guidelines can result in colours that clash or a colour that makes the reading of text difficult.

For example, using a pastel colour as a canvas colour allows dark text to be easily read. A dark canvas colour makes dark text unreadable. Wrong colours can lead to eye strain, headaches and fatigue among users.
