This form is used to record and maintain the institution defined set of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) Codes. These are comparable to Government Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander codes (element 316), but provide for greater flexibility with the ability to subdivide Government Codes and to use more meaningful codes. Each institution defined code must be mapped to a Government Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Code. ATSI Codes are used in the Maintain Person Statistical Details form (ENRF3060) and the Callista Connect Person Statistics application. For example, Element 316 of the Higher Education Student Data Collection is a single numeric code (2, 3, 4 or 9) which indicates whether or not the student identifies him or herself as being of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. This form permits an institution to define a set of equivalent codes which may have a more obvious meaning, as shown below.

Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Code has been assigned to a Student
Enrolment, it cannot be deleted. It can be closed, preventing any further
use, by selecting the Closed check box |
