STAF112Z - Maintain Government Disability Types - VET only

Purpose

To record a Government Disability Type and a Sector for the System Disability Types.

SubSystem

Statistics

Sector VET
Normally Run By Administration specialist
Anticipated Frequency As required
Structure Block Government Disability Types

The Disability Types for each sector are different and are also reported differently. Disability Types are reported as follows:

Government Body: File: Field:
DETYA Student Enrolment File Disability - Element No. 386
AVETMISS NAT00090 - Client Disability Disability Type Identifier

It is recommended that institutions setup their disability reference data as per the example in the table at the front of this document. This table shows the recommended mappings of System Disability Type, Government Disability Type and Sector.

A student is not required to have a disability record for each sector. Disability only needs to be recorded once and it will be reported correctly based on the data that is set up using this function.

Each System Disability Type should be established for each sector. The mapping to the Government Disability Type will determine how this value will be reported. If the data is not established in this way it will lead to data not being reported correctly.

For instance, ACQUIRED BRAIN IMPAIRMENT is an AVETMISS Disability Type, however it is not a DETYA Disability Type. A person may have a disability of this type (ACQUIRED BRAIN IMPAIRMENT) and consequently a record of this type will exist in the PERSON_DISABILITY table for this person. If this person is undertaking both a VET and a HE course they need to be reported to both AVETMISS and DETYA.

Example No.1

If the reference data has only been established for one sector as per the table below, problems will arise when reporting to DETYA because a HE equivalent has not been established for the S_DISABILITY_TYPE of 'ACQUIRED BRAIN IMPAIRMENT'.

  • S_DISABILITY_TYPE = BRAIN
  • S_SECTOR_CD = VET
  • GOVT_DISABILITY_TYPE = 16
  • DESCRIPTION = ACQUIRED BRAIN IMPAIRMENT

Example No.2

If the reference data has been established for each sector as per the table below, reporting to both AVETMISS and DETYA will be correct and as per the institution intended.

  • S_DISABILITY_TYPE
    • BRAIN
    • BRAIN
  • S_SECTOR_CD
    • VET
    • HE
  • GOVT_DISABILITY_TYPE
    • 16
    • OTHER
  • DESCRIPTION
    • ACQUIRED BRAIN IMPAIRMENT
    • OTHER
  • CLOSED_IND
    • N
    • N

In the event that an institution does not establish the Disability Type reference data as per the recommended model the processes that create the snapshots to report this data will report the value as a Disability Type of 'OTHER'. Referring back to Example 1 above, in this case when reporting to DETYA the ACQUIRED BRAIN IMPAIRMENT Disability Type will be reported as a Government Disability Type of 'OTHER'.
