To allow the creation and maintenance of Government Fields of Education in accordance with the Documentation for the Higher Education Student collection.

Explanation

Universities are required to report to DIISRTE, statistics concerning courses offered and enrolments in courses. The Field of Education code (DIISRTE element 461) and the Field of Education Supplementary code (DIISRTE element 462) identify the field of education to which courses are classified.

To create a new government field of education code using the Maintain Field of Education form:

• Enter Insert Mode.
• Enter new Australian Bureau of Statistics code in Government field of education field of a blank record.
• Enter the description of the field of education in the Description field.
• Save. 

To delete a government field of education record using the Maintain Field of Education form:

• Find the record to be deleted.
• Locate the cursor in the record to be deleted. 
• Delete record.
• Save.

Rules/Notes: 

If a government field of education code has been used in the definition of a course, it cannot be deleted. It can be closed, preventing any further use, by selecting the Closed check box. 

To modify a government field of education record using the Maintain Government Field of Education form:

• Find the record to be modified.
• Modify the record as required.
• Save. 

Rules/Notes: 

If a government field of education code has been assigned to a course, only the description can be modified. The description should only be modified where the change is minor. A new government field of education code should normally be created.

A government field of education code can be closed, preventing any further use, by selecting the Closed check box.
