Structure Block Thesis Panel Member Type

A person, nominated for inclusion on a Thesis Examining Panel, is allocated a Thesis Panel Member type (in the Thesis Details form - RESF3700). These types allow the classification of panel members, according to their position (or type) on the panel. Any panel established (in RESF3700) can only have one panel member who has been allocated a Thesis Panel Member type where the Panel Chair indicator is selected. (However it is not required that an examination panel have a chair.)

A Tracking Type can also be defined as an attribute of the Thesis Panel Member Type. This provides a set of tracking steps for use in maintaining a check on the interactions with this panel member (see TRKF1100 for further explanation of tracking types).

The Thesis Panel Member Type block contains:

  • Panel Member Type
  • Description
  • Panel Chair check box
  • Closed check box
  • Tracking Type
  • Description

This form is used to record the institution-defined list of Thesis Panel Member Types.

Panel Member Type and Description must be entered. Only minor modifications to the Description should be made once a Thesis Panel Member type has been used in the system. The Panel Member Type entry cannot be modified once it has been committed.

An appropriate Tracking Type can be allocated to a Thesis Panel Member Type using this form. (Institution-defined Tracking Types must be created using the form TRKF1100, before they can be assigned to a Thesis Panel Member Type here. Only Tracking Types that map to the system tracking type 'RES_TPM' can be used.)

Rules/Notes:

These types could include CHAIR, REGULAR.

Panel Member Type must be unique.

Only select the Panel Chair indicator for those types that fit the institution's requirements to chair a thesis panel. Validation rules restrict allocation of Panel Member Types to only one Panel Chair for any thesis panel.

Once used in the system, a Thesis Panel Member Type cannot be deleted. Select the Closed indicator to prevent future use.
